As Sawyer was about to invite her into the cabin because the temperature was dropping, Abigail called his name.
"Sawyer—"
"Yes...?"
"I can't open my heart so fast to a man. The wound that man carved into my heart is still fresh. I don't know when I'll be able to recover and trust a man again." Abigail lowered her gaze, unable to meet his eyes.
"I'm sorry, Sawyer. I hope you are willing to understand me..." she continued, her voice barely audible.
Still, Sawyer heard her clearly. "It's fine, Abby. I understand. I know that man hurt you deeply."
"Thank you for being honest about your feelings and then understanding me even when I don't respond the way you hoped, Sawyer," Abigail slowly lifted her head to meet his gaze. This time, a weak smile appeared on her lips. "Please, give me more time to heal from this pain. I will try to move on from that jerk as quickly as possible!"
