Lydia rushed to her car, her hands trembling as she fumbled with the key fob.
"Stop right there!" a sharp voice rang out, halting her movements. Startled, she flinched, the key slipping from her fingers and clattering to the ground. She spun around to see Ethan striding toward her, his expression tight with fury.
"You told me he'd only fall sick," Ethan hissed through gritted teeth, stopping in front of her. "But he had a heart attack. You tricked me!" His glare was sharp enough to cut through her core.
Lydia's face darkened, her anger igniting like a match struck too close to gasoline. "Lower your voice," she snapped. "This is not the place to talk. Come with me."
"I'm not going anywhere with you!" Ethan shot back. "You lied to me. Because of you, Mr. Williams' life is at risk. You're nothing but a manipulative liar. I should never have trusted you!"
