Her eyes fluttered open, and her breath caught. There, wrapped firmly around her waist, was an arm. Heart racing, Ava turned her head and saw Dylan lying beside her, still deep in slumber. His face was peaceful, and his breathing was even.
Ava blinked, her mind struggling to make sense of the situation.
'Wasn't this a dream?' She squeezed her eyes shut, then opened them again, half-expecting him to vanish. But no—there he was, as real as the erratic thudding of her heart.
