Chapter 10 - Chapter 10 - Cocoon

Remember when Adam said he would not wish the tragedy of Helmin to happen to even his enemies?

Well, he was now backpedaling.

He could feel something wriggling within his body. It started from his core, spreading outward like a burrowing worm. He could not tell if it was devouring the metals and minerals that made up his body, but it was definitely a very uncomfortable sensation.

With every passing second, the wriggling worm-like sensation grew closer to having scoured every inch of his body. If not for the fact that Adam knew he was immune to the Corpuscladis, he would have definitely been panicking right now wondering if he was about to die. However, knowing it does not change anything because he felt extremely violated.

It was not just Adam who was experiencing this change. Earth and the Moon were as well. Although in the case of the Moon, it was not as horrible as his mainly because Evelyn was not the one to have actually come into contact and absorbed a Corpuscladis, the Progenitor no less.

The Moon's transformation was mainly due to the new racial trait of the Anima Mundi. Through some unique power, Adam could somehow change not just himself but also other members of his race as long as the change was rather fundamental to the nature of an Anima Mundi.

Which meant that if Adam were to instead devour a star and evolve from it, then it would not affect the Anima Mundi as a whole at all. At least, he did not believe it would change his race. There was no intrinsic or fundamental change to the nature of his race to warrant its spread through his authority as Progenitor of the Anima Mundi.

All this to say that the Moon is not actually in the process of assimilating with a parasite like Adam and Earth were. Instead, it was gaining organic properties through her connection to the Progenitor.

If it was any other planet, however, they would not have needed to rely on such things as they could just assimilate the organic materials on their surface, i.e. vegetation and even microorganisms. But the Moon never had a single lifeform on her body to begin with, so she could only rely on her Progenitor.

Meanwhile, Earth was experiencing a silent but tremendous change. It had been quite some time since the disaster that practically destroyed human civilisation. They were only starting to rebuild now.

Unbeknownst to the humans, however, the land was being transformed into living flesh. The transformation was not as grotesque and invasive as it had been for Helmin. In the latter's case, there was no assimilation that occurred. It was just pure infestation which meant that the organic was more dominant than the inorganic. But for Earth, there was proper balance.

The land was not being completely turned into flesh. As the system said, he was immune to the Corpuscladis and only obtained its traits that had resulted in the creation of a new race of hybrid lifeforms. And so, the evolution of Earth was geared toward a more natural form.

The land obtained traits of flora and fauna that could absorb and contain more water. It also obtained the slight sheen of a carapace while not actually being covered by one. After all, how could it absorb water or let plants take root if the ground was really covered by carapace as tough as the toughest minerals on Earth?

The waters were also being filled with substances that made it emanate an aura of life and vitality. It could now easily be mistaken as water from the fountain of youth and it would not be inaccurate. But the best part was how new life was being born on Earth at this moment.

This particular new lifeform is actually a true symbiotic parasite that grew under the influence of Earth itself. Its life was literally at the hands of the planet which meant that even if it ever gained sentience, it would not be able to rebel and cause a disaster like in Helmin.

These symbiotic parasites spread across the world, latching onto all the organic-based lifeforms and began their process of evolution. What would have taken countless years and generations could be achieved in mere days to months.

And as the organisms on Earth all fell unconscious in preparation for their evolution, Earth itself began being covered by a thin membrane that acted as a sort of incubator to hasten its evolution.

Adam himself was also covered in his own cocoon experiencing the first change he had brought upon himself since becoming a living being.
