Chapter 9 - 9 Assassin Attempt

[ Experience Extraction complete. ]

A flood of information poured into Yun's consciousness, and he felt his understanding of Chinese medicine expand exponentially.

[ Deok Chan's 40 years of Chinese medicine experience data is being copied and sent to the host's body and mind. ]

Yun's mind reeled as he absorbed the vast knowledge, his ability upgrading at an incredible rate.

[ Congrats host for your ability upgrade: Chinese medicine novice level > intermediate level. ]

Yun's eyes snapped open, and he grinned, thrilled with his newfound abilities. "Thank you, Deok Chan! Your experience has been invaluable!"

Deok Chan's expression turned puzzled. "Thank you? What do you mean, Yun? I didn't give you anything."

Yun realized that Deok Chan was unaware of the Experience Extraction skill. "Oh, no, I mean... uh... thank you for the conversation, Deok Chan. I learned a lot from you."

Deok Chan's face cleared up, and he smiled. "Ah, I see. Well, I'm glad I could help. But I think there's been a misunderstanding. I didn't teach you anything, did I?"

Yun hesitated, unsure how to reveal the truth. "Well, nothing."

Pfft! Yun suppressed his laughter and agreed to give the test. He was determined to show off his skills, despite his earlier struggles.

In the first test, he confidently selected all three herbs correctly, impressing Deok Chan and the others. In the second test, he clearly explained the method to cure Synthebinis, showcasing his knowledge.

Next, he proceeded to make the pill, carefully placing the ingredients in the furnace. However, his first attempt ended in failure, and even after trying a second time, he was unable to create the pill. Yun's face fell, but he refused to give up.

He took a moment to focus, gathering his thoughts and channeling his energy. Finally, with a burst of determination, he successfully created a pill to boost inner energy. The room fell silent, with everyone staring at Yun in disbelief.

"How did you do it?" Deok Chan asked, his voice filled with astonishment.

Yun smiled humbly. "I just focused and tried again."

The crowd erupted into cheers and applause, impressed by Yun's perseverance and skill. Deok Chan patted Yun on the back, a wide grin on his face.

"Welcome to Medicine Mountain, Yun. You've proven yourself worthy."

[ Ding! ]

[ Ding! ]

[ Ding! ]...

"Aaah! Why are all these notifications coming together?" Yun exclaimed, covering his ears. "System, quickly stop all these notifications or else my ears will burst!"

[ Host, there are many people here who are surprised to see your feat. Their favorability has increased for you as follows: +23P, +12P, +35P, ...+11P, +19P, -100FP..... ]

Yun's eyes widened as he scanned the list. "Okay, leave all this and tell me how much Head Xin's favorability has increased."

[ Head Xin's favorability level: 0P. ]

Yun's eyes widened in shock. "0P? How is that possible?"

[ Host, Head Xin's name is not mentioned in the names above. ]

Yun's eyes narrowed. "What? That's impossible! He's the one who gave me the tests!"

[ Congra... ]

Yun's thoughts raced. Had Head Xin not been impressed by his feats? Or was there something more to it? He decided to investigate further.

"But I passed all three of Head Xin's tests," Yun protested, confusion etched on his face.

[ I don't know all that. ] the System replied, its tone dismissive. [ Congra.... ]

Yun's eyes narrowed. "Leave all that and first tell me what is this -100FP?"

The System sighed, its digital voice laced with irritation. [ Will you let me do my work or not? If you interrupt me again, you'll see. ]

Yun's gaze turned stubborn. "I won't let you ignore me. Explain the -100FP."

The System's response was a sarcastic one: [ Oh, joy. You've managed to max out someone's favorability to negative for the first time. Congratulations! ]

Yun's eyes widened as a notification popped up: [ Congratulation! Host, you have maxed someone's favorability to negative for you for the first time. ]

The System continued, its tone dripping with sarcasm. [ As a reward, you get a +100FP voucher. Yay. ]

Yun's face fell as he realized the implications. "You mean I've made an enemy?"

Head Xin's words cut through the air, "Although you passed all three of my tests, we cannot break our ancient tradition. So I cannot make you my disciple, so you go back..."

Yun's eyes flashed with determination as he activated the System. "System, use +100FP voucher on Head Xin. Hurry!"

[ Skill: Experience Extraction being used on Xin Chan. ]

Yun felt the familiar sensation of knowledge flooding his mind as the System worked its magic.

[ Experience Extraction complete. ]

[ Xin Chan's 75 years of Chinese medicine experience data is being copied and sent to the host's body and mind. ]

Yun's eyes widened as he absorbed the vast knowledge, his ability upgrading again at an incredible rate.

[ Congrats host for your ability upgrade: Chinese Medicine Intermediate level > Professional level. ]

Head Xin continued, "....but since you passed my tests with flying colors, I want to give you a reward." Saying this, he left after asking Bo Chan to bring Yun to the Main Hall at 9:00 am.

As soon as Head Xin departed, Yun noticed a notification: [ Digi Chan's -20FP increased again. ]

Yun's eyes narrowed in confusion. "Now who is this Digi Chan... wait a minute, again? Oh! So this is my same beneficiary due to which I got +100FP voucher." But why is his favorability increasing to negative?

Yun's thoughts were interrupted by Bo Chan, who gestured for him to follow. "Let's go, Yun. I'll show you to your room."

Without thinking much, Yun followed Bo Chan, who led him to a cozy guest room. Bo Chan arranged for food and left, leaving Yun to ponder the mysterious Digi Chan and the strange favorability notifications.

As he sat down to eat, Yun wondered if he would ever understand the intricacies of favorability and the System's workings. But for now, he was content with his progress and the prospect of learning from Head Xin.

At midnight, when Yun was sleeping peacefully in his room, wrapped in a bedsheet, a sinister figure sneaked in, wielding knives. The intruder attacked Yun repeatedly, their blades slicing through the air with deadly precision.

"Finally, I have finished off this fucker," the intruder muttered, panting with exertion. "But why didn't Yun scream even after I attacked him so many times with knives?"

As the intruder pondered this, a sudden attack from behind caught them off guard. They were swiftly subdued and captured, their weapons clattering to the floor.

"Who is it?" the intruder growled, struggling to see their assailant in the darkness.

But as the room's bulb flickered to life, the intruder's eyes widened in disbelief.

"You! How are you alive? I had killed you!" they exclaimed, staring at Yun in shock.

Yun stood tall, his eyes blazing with a fierce determination. "You may have tried to kill me, but you failed. And now, it's your turn to face justice."

The intruder's face contorted in a mixture of fear and disbelief as Yun approached them, their eyes locked in a fierce stare.

Yun's eyes narrowed as he gazed at the intruder. "Let's see who could be after my life? Ah, I see. This is Head Xin's grand disciple, Digi Chan."

The intruder's eyes widened in surprise. "How do you know about me?"

Yun smiled wryly. "I had suspected you when you were looking at me with hateful eyes. And I had found out everything about you from Bo Chan. Tell me, why do you want to kill me? We have never even met."

Digi Chan's face twisted in a snarl. "Why? You ask why? I have been a disciple of that old man Xin for the last 30 years. Although I have not yet been able to reach that level in Chinese medicine, I am trying my best and will reach that position in the coming 10 years. But I don't know from where you appeared, and that old man gave you permission to go to the main hall. Whereas this opportunity was mine. Miiine..."

Digi Chan's voice rose in indignation. "If you were not here, I would have been the one to inherit Head Xin's legacy. But you showed up out of nowhere, and now everything is being handed to you on a silver platter. I won't let that happen!"

Yun's expression turned stern. "So, you're motivated by jealousy and a desire for power. But killing me won't solve your problems, Digi Chan. It will only bring you more trouble."

Digi Chan sneered. "We'll see about that. You're not as clever as you think you are, Yun."

Yun's expression turned stern. "You are screaming too much." Before Digi Chan could utter another word, Yun swiftly shut his mouth and utilized his martial art expertise to disable all of Digi Chan's acupoints.

Instead of delivering the final blow, Yun chose to spare his life. He dragged Digi Chan to a nearby river on the mountain and declared, "I did not kill you out of pity, but because you are my benefactor. I am leaving you alive."

Yun's eyes gleamed with a hint of irony. "However, you should receive some punishment. From now on, you will be unable to do anything for the rest of your life except listen and watch."

With that, Yun turned his back on Digi Chan and returned to his quarters, leaving the once-ambitious disciple to contemplate his fate. As Yun drifted off to sleep, he couldn't help but wonder what other challenges lay ahead in his journey.
