Chapter 20 - Chapter 20:Report

Agent Report: Subject: [William] – Observational Analysis

Objective: Observe the subject for possible risks, gather behavioral data, and establish threat level.

---

Summary:

The subject had been awarded a scholarship in Light Academy; he was coping well in his academic environment with a quiet nature that had kept to himself but was highly observant. The subject is an introverted type, dedicating much of his time to academics; and the rest to a very minimal number of interactions with co-students. Clever, but neither participating in extracurricular activities nor leading close relations with peers. Though majority of the ladies seemed to be enchanted by him, even though there isn't any evidence of him using any sort of supernatural abilities

Behavioral Observations:

Viewed as an outsider by most male students, this feeling is enhanced not only by his appearance but because of a socio-economic difference from the majority of the student body. While he intrigues some female students due to his mysteriousness and intelligence, he holds people at arm's length with politeness. He is targeted by his male peers through verbal bullying and minor acts of aggression, neither of which he responds to or escalates. The subject seems unconcerned by this as if he has learned to live with isolation and hostility. It has also been observed that wounds attained through this bullying often vanish after the beating.

Personality Profiling:

The subject is very closed in and emotionally mature to an advanced degree. He avoids conflict, will not engage in direct eye-to-eye contact, and shows a disinclination toward attachment. His academic work shows the mark of a bright mind, particularly in analytical subjects, and would therefore suggest that he approaches problems in a structured and solution-focused manner. Observations would suggest that he has a resilience and ability to adapt, perhaps developed through many years of reliance on himself. He does not overtly display rebellious or aggressive tendencies, although he does display wariness towards authority figures and adopts an indifferent stance when engaging with staff. He also seems to be dazed as of late though teachers and students have revealed it is not a usual occurrence.

Risk Assessment:

The subject currently is a low to moderate threat; he is not likely to draw attention to himself or incite unrest in his present state. However, his calm and reserved nature suggests a degree of self-control that may be dangerous if he were to be provoked. More notably, his history indicates a potential to evade and survive in extreme situations, which could insinuate that he may have developed more defensive capabilities than he presents. Plus though unnoticeable by the masses he sometimes releases a deep bloodlust whilst in a daze.

Recommendation:

Further observation is needed in order to confirm any possible presence of new behavioral changes or trends that might be coming out. At this point, direct interference is not required but rather continued subtle monitoring for signs that the subject might be becoming more defensive or evasive, particularly when under pressure.

The chair of Nations defense finished skimming through the document in a few moments, and the agent who had brought in the report stood waiting for further instructions.

"What do you think we should do with this Subject agent." the man asked.

"I believe we should continue to observe him from the sidelines, sir," she said maintaining her tone not wanting it to come out as impolite.

"That's where you are wrong agent, such a person though ranked as C in terms of threat is nothing short of a ticking time bomb. If left to move around freely it would bring about catastrophic effects." he paused and stood from his desk and walked towards the window.

"Isn't the city beautiful?" he asked though rhetorically, "Think of it this way that boy can wipe out this whole city on a whim. Do you still think that he should just be observed? If so what will we do if he decides to do anything, we won't be able to stop him even if we tried. After all the Red Wraith had a rating of SSS+++ danger which slowly reduced due to inactivity."

"Do you understand this agent?" he asked. "Yes," she said.

"Very well proceed with the containment plan have him in here by next week,"

"Yes sir, it will be done," she said curtly as she left his office.

While she tries to bridge the distance between them a few instances leaning in closer or passing a soft smile-he responds with an undemonstrative distance, polite but impenetrable. She tries to spark small conversations, asking him about a book he is reading or if he would like to share notes, the tone light, hopeful, her words tinged with warmth. Each time, there's a faint reserved smile; the voice is kind but distant, like there's an invisible wall she can't seem to cross.

She attempts to sit a bit closer, perhaps her presence might open him up a little and sometimes lays her hand on the table between them in an unconscious invitation for connection that he never really accepts. He acknowledges her kindness with quiet gratitude, even nods here and there, and yet his responses are guarded, almost rehearsed, as if he has learned this well-oiled art of keeping people at arm's length without offending them.

As days wear on, she catches herself looking his way more and more, hoping for a crack that he might just open up. But his polite distance remains, always his eyes drifting back to the view outside or to some book in his hands. She aches for him in a mix of hope and growing frustration, sensing that it is not the rudeness that keeps him from making any overtures, but rather something deeply held within him, a guardedness she cannot unlock. As delightful as he remains to her with his careful distance, she questions whether there's any path to his heart at all.

'Damn it all!' she thinks in frustration after another failed attempt to get closer to William. The rest of the girls within the room notice this and smirk at her pathetic attempts, they had all been in her shoes at some point in time.

'Heh, serves her right thinking that she'll take Will away from me' they think in unison.

---

One afternoon, she decides to bring in a book she thinks he might like, perhaps to spark conversation, and maybe let him into a bit of her world. She had seen him with novels before, always with that same pensive expression, so she picked out one of her favorites a story rich with mystery and subtle romance, something she hoped he'd find intriguing.

Her heart racing, she finally gets the courage to walk over to his desk and cradle the book in her hands, her pulse quickening as she smiles and holds it out to him. "I thought you might like this," she says, her voice warm and a little hopeful. "It's. one of my favorites."

He looks up, and for a moment his dark eyes catch hers, and she could have sworn something in his gaze softened. But then he takes the book from her hands, his face politely unreachable, and runs a thumb over the cover, nodding very slowly, as if examining it. "Thank you," he says quietly, smiling small, appreciatively at her. "It's thoughtful of you, but I've already read it,"

The flutter in her heart stops and she waits for him to ask her why she chose it or at least make a comment on the title. He simply lays the book on the corner of his desk and reaches back for his book as if their exchange had been no more than a favor-passed on to be acknowledged and then discarded.

She feels her face flush and stands there a moment longer, peering into his face for some sign he might look up again, that he might open up just that little bit more. But he doesn't; his attention anchored somewhere else, his serene composure gently closes the door she had tried to open. With a soft sigh, she manages the quiet "You're welcome" and walks away, the disappointment settling over her heart.
