Chapter 17 - The Bloody Trap

The screech made him shudder, as pure moonlight pointed down upon him. Purple moonlight. The man on the moon seemed to be saying something to him. But he left swiftly, he still had to report back to Albert. So he made his way back out of the manor. Escaping through the front door and back, full force, into the putrid air.

He started to make his way back to the bar, but he felt that something was off. The area he was in started to become more foggy. The air seemed stiffened. And even after running back into town there was fog. So he headed up to one of the rooftops. From there he saw the entire town engulfed in fog, a faded light grey slosh pit. And since it was like that, and didn't seem like it was clearing any time soon, he decided to just stay on the rooftops as it would be better to actually see where he was going.

John Hopped from rooftop to rooftop, the fog deciding to copy his movements and follow him. 'This shit is too thick. I wonder if everyone is in their homes.' John had just arrived at the bar. He entered through the door on the roof and made his way down the stairs, running into Albert. "John. Finally, I've been waiting for forever!" Albert took a sigh. "Let me go get the rest of the imbeciles, then lead us to the entrance." And then he ran off, leaving John in a kind of surprised silence. He hadn't even confirmed if he actually found it or not. Albert was too impatient to wait any longer.

Eventually the others came, their backs loaded with weapons. They all went back to the rooftops to start traversing. And eventually they made it back to the same manor. John opened the door and walked inside. The fog had invaded this area as well so it made it even harder to see than the first time. He slowly made his way about the area, the others behind him, until he had made it to the kitchen. For some reason, even with the gaping hole that had taken about half the kitchen away, no fog was present. "Down that hole is the entrance, it's a trap door close to the bottom, but it is covered in rubble."

Albert closely examined the hole. "Greenslade, get your ass down there and uncover the trapdoor." One of the other four guys hopped down into the hole. This was the first time that John had heard one of their names. Then again, Albert told him not to ask. Breaking from his thoughts, he heard Greenslade shout for everyone to come down. They all jumped down and were right next to the now exposed trapdoor. "Anyone got anything to say before heading in?" Albert asked the group, but no one spoke. "Ok then, let's head down." They all nodded as Albert opened the trapdoor.

They all jumped down. The area under the trapdoor was impressive. It was all hollowed out to make tunnels. They all walked a little further and ran into the end of that tunnel. But they also noticed that there were exactly six other tunnels. "Let's split." Albert said, his voice echoing across the walls. They all went over to a tunnel, and all started walking down them. John had taken the further tunnel, deciding that after everyone else had already chosen theirs.

He started walking down into the tunnel. It was smaller than the main one but still remained the same level of perfection as the previous one. But eventually, seconds turned into minutes, and minutes turned into hours. It truly felt like he had been walking for nearly three hours. And in those hours he had heard screams, screeches, and walking from everywhere in the tunnel. He was tired, and the tunnel seemed never ending.

Or at least he was tired before he instinctively dodged something that swung at him. John could even see it until it stopped at the wall. "A….battle axe?" He questioned, not seeing the arrow rushing at him. But at the last second he somehow dodged, yet it cut his cheek. Now with blood rushing down he realized what was going on. The entire place was trapped.

He slowly got up and continued heading forward. If it was trapped that meant he was getting close to something. And it was indeed trapped. He dogged arrows, daggers, and more battle axes. Until he accidentally stepped on a plate that went back into the ground. "What the-" The entire area of where he came from started breaking and falling into a black void disappearing from view. "Fuck!" He yelled as he started running before he was taken. But then he hit another trap.

Fire started coming from the walls. He jumped over them, and slid under them, and kept running. Then he saw light. Something was ahead, he just had to make it there. So he sped up. Eventually he jumped onto a separated platform and took a breath. "Finally.." He looked into the void where the tunnel fell. It was just a deep pool of blood. Who's? Who knows. But just then the platform under him collapsed causing him to fall in. But at the last second he went to grab onto the remaining part that didn't.

He missed.
