A long time ago, I thought it was stupid how parents have a problem naming their child.
Until I experienced it myself.
"Okay," I started as I looked over the girl while she stared at me. "Name... name... let's think of a name..."
Was all that mumbling meaningful? Yes, it was meant to distract me from the fact I have nothing. I was never good with naming.
Heck, the name 'Feeder's Seed' is something that took me DAYS to come up with.
"What do you think, Yu?" I asked, looking at the other Elemental.
Yu was sitting nearby while reading a scroll. She raised her head and gave me a bored look. "Why are you asking me?"
"Don't you have any ideas?"
"I don't care in the slightest what you name her."
"... You're right. You're probably can call her 'girl' for the entire time she's here," I deadpanned.
"I wouldn't do that," she said and I looked at here in suspicion. "I'd also call her 'annoyance' from time to time." There it is.
"Monster?" The girl suddenly said, drawing my attention.
"What?" I asked.
"Name? Monster?" She sounded like she was asking. "What are you saying?" I asked.
The girl's face turned a bit thoughtful. "Screaming... Things... Look... her," she said as she pointed at Yu. "Name monster."
"Uh..." Was my only response.
"She's saying that the people she met before called her a monster and she believes that's her name," Yu explained.
"Oh," I knelt down and placed a hand on the girl's shoulder. "That's... That's not a name, and it's definitely not a name a girl should have."
"How would you know? You have no gender," Yu so helpfully commented, making me wish I had eyes to roll.
"Okay... how about Yang?" I asked.
"Yee aang?" The girl asked, pronouncing it wrong.
"Really? What part of her gives you the impression of 'sun' to you?" Yu asked, giving me a deadpan look.
"Hey, not everyone has to be named after a trait they have. Some names are just given normally," I said back before turning away. "You would make a good example of that," I mumbled.
A blade burst through my chest and stabbed at the other side of the cave. "I'm sorry, I didn't hear that last part."
"I said her name will be Yang from now!" I quickly exclaimed before turning to the girl again as the hole in my chest filled out. "Alright, from now on, your name is Yang."
"Ya... aang," she mumbled, getting closer to saying it right.
"Don't worry, I promise I'll fix you up real quick," I said while giving her a thumbs up.
"So, do you have a plan?" Yu asked while leaning on one of her arms.
I immediately froze and, if I had blood, it would have been drained completely from me. "Uh... Uhmm... Well..."
"What's wrong?" Yu raised an eyebrow and she actually didn't sound sarcastic.
"I actually... didn't think this through," I mumbled while looking anywhere EXCEPT Yu and Yang. "I really... don't have any plans."
I mean, sure I technically raised Svend but it was still mostly training. Yang needs genuine emotional help and guidance. She can't even speak straight for God's sake.
Yu suddenly got up from her seat and headed to the entrance of the cave. Me and Yang looked at her curiously as she looked over the horizon and took a deep breath.
"HEAR ME, GAIA, HEAVENLY BODY OF THIS UNIVERSE! ONE OF YOUR CHILDREN CALLS YOU TO SAY-" She pointed at me mid-scream.
"THIS IS THE IDIOT YOU CHOSE AS YOUR MIRROR! I HOPE YOU'RE PROUD BECAUSE HE'S SUPPOSED TO REPRESENT US ALL!"
Yu threw her hands away in a 'screw this' motion and went back to her seat before picking up her scroll again and continuing reading.
"Well," I placed my hands on my waist as I looked at Yang, who looked confused. "That happened."
