"No."
"Are you serious?"
"Are you?"
After Yu went to get some cow meat, I gave the little girl a shower and a good scrubbing to get all the blood and dirt off her-thank god I'm genderless and have no concept of sexuality - before giving her some of the clothes around to wear, which is something Yu complained about when she came back.
She complains a lot.
The girl - who was wearing a long sleeved dress a bit too big for her - was enjoying some barbecue that I prepared after cutting up the cow that Yu brought back. I don't know how or where she got it from but quite frankly, I'm not interested in knowing.
Anyway, after I prepared the barbecue and set up a small fire for it to cook, I spent a few minutes convincing the girl to actually wait for it to cook before finally giving her some.
When she began eating, I took Yu to the side and asked her if we can let the girl stay here. I'm sure anyone can guess what her response was.
"You said that you'll just make sure she's okay and you did that," Yu crossed her arms and glared at me. "Why the hell would I even keep her around?"
"Because she's in a far worse state than I thought," I replied while taking a glance at the girl as she kept eating. "She's in a seriously bad state. Both mentally and physically."
"And this is my problem how?" Yu asked.
"She really has nowhere to go or rely on. She WILL. die if we let her go."
"Again, how is this my problem? And she's not so bad. She managed to stay alive this long."
"She was two seconds from dying out of starvation or thirst when I found her," a bit of an exaggeration but she really was in a bad shape. "Plus, now that this nation is unifying, its only a matter of time before ACTUAL soldiers go after her instead of angry villagers or bandits."
"I still don't see why I should care."
"Because she's abandoned and hated for that she is like you," I replied, getting a bit angry now. Yu's glare intensified. "Don't you dare-"
"I know humanity will reject her just like they did to you. But not all of it was bad. There WAS people in your life that actually helped you. Do you not want to be like that to someone? Even a little? Just this once?" I asked, firmly glaring at her.
I may have hated using her life of torment against her, but I'm putting my foot down here and now.
We kept glaring at each other with the only noise being the cackling fire and the girl's chewing. After a while, Yu sighed and started messaging her forehead.
"How bad is she?" She asked.
"Let me show you," I walked up to the girl and picked up the bowl of water. "What is this?" I asked pointing at the water.
"Drinky stuff." The girl replied before taking another bite of her meat.
"And this?" I asked, pointing at the fire.
"Hot hurty stuff." "And this?" I asked, this time creating a small branch and pointing at it.
"Hard brown stuff. Taste dirt," she said with a groan.
"Do you have a name?"
"What name?"
I turned back at Yu and motioned to the girl while giving her my strongest 'This' look. Her answer about the tree branch just meant that she, at one point, actually tried to eat wood. "Okay, this IS bad, but still manageable," Yu sighed and sat down on a chair. "At least she can speak. It could have been way worse, honestly."
The sad part is that she's right.
