(A/N: the 2nd half of the last chapter was changed and it no longer calls Yu a "True Ancestor". Just an FYI.
And for those wondering, yes I did move the Buddha chapter and the Chinese Arc here. If you look back, you won't find them in the chapter list because I was planning to add them AFTER the Norse Arc but skipped it by accident.)
"Moon dripping in the... batufal-"
"It's moon dripping in the beautiful sea of stars!" Yeah, this has been my last few... days? Weeks? Still can't keep up with time passing.
"Is your brain filled with wood?" Yu asked as she glared at me.
We were resting in cave she had apparently prepared before hand. There's some old - as in REALLY old - stuff laying around like vases or some other furniture and antiques.
"Yeah, it actually is," I replied as I knocked on my head, causing an echo.
Her glare turned to a deadpan look as she shook her head, "For the love of... If it wasn't for the fact I owe you for protecting Lord Xiang Yu's reputation, I wouldn't have ever agreed to this."
"Well, it's a good thing I was around when it happened," I replied as I turned my attention back to the scroll she gave me.
Honestly, I really was here by chance. I only understood what happened because I was using my wing element to listen in-by thinning the wind in it enough to make it invisible - on the soldiers and heard them talking about how their finally taking down Xiang Yu.
I, sadly, was too late to stop him and try to come up with a more peaceful solution, but I at least managed to save his reputation from completely being seen as bad.
I know a lot of the people in the future aren't gonna buy it, but at least the idea he wasn't completely evil is now there.
"Hey, I've been meaning to ask," I placed the scroll down and looked at Yu. "Are you... you know, okay?"
"Why wouldn't I be?"
"Well, you lost your husband,"
"You think I haven't experienced lose before?"
"Losing someone 'close' and someone you "loved' is not the same."
Yu glared at me for a few seconds before she sighed and sat down at a roughly made chair nearby. "I... It's not easy. I have half a mind to just go over there and clear this country entirely of humans."
"But that would go against what your husband wanted?" I asked.
She nodded. "He... he really loved this land. Everything he did, everyone he killed, every home he burned, it was all for the sake of this... ungrateful species!"
Her voice raised in the end.
"That depends," I say and she looked at me confused. "They're only ungrateful if they actually know what he did. But, as far as I know, his plan from the start was for everyone to see him as the villain."
"How do you know so much?"
"I'm Gaia's favourite Elemental. It shares a lot with me ," total bullshit. I haven't spoke to Gaia once, but she doesn't need to do that.
Yu sighed and rubbed her face with her hands. "I... I suppose you're right. Lord Xiang Yu's plan went flawlessly, Well, except for you. Your appearance was not expected even by my husband."
Well, there was no way for him to know. As far as I know, I've never made any impact on China or even encountered anyone there. How can he know about something that, as far as he's concerned, doesn't exist?
"Did you lose someone before?" Yu asked me.
"What makes you say that?"
"You sound experienced in this."
"Ah," I nodded before looking down. "I... lost a lot of people. Though, probably not as much as you. You're older than me."
"Well that explains-" she suddenly stopped and blinked a few times. "What did you just say?"
"Uh... you're older than me?"
"How old are you?"
I shrugged my shoulders. "I don't know, when was Gilgamesh's rulership and Uruk?" I asked. I really should learn how to keep track of time.
Yu looked at me in shock before leaning back and looking up in... despair? "Archtype Earth... Is not even a full two thousand years old?"
I winced at the tone of her voice. It sounded defeated,
like someone realising they were beaten by a beginner. "Is that bad?" I asked.
Her head snapped at me and she glared hard. I genuinely thought she was gonna attack me but she
took a few breaths and shook her head, "You have no idea how many Elementals THREE TIMES your age tried to reach for your position, do you?"
"Well, we Ultimate Ones ARE supposed to be on a league of our own," I replied with a shrug. "Did YOU ever try that?"
"Hell no! I knew from the start that was a fool's errand!"
"Then you have no reason to be mad, right?" I asked.
"It's the freaking principle!" She actually jumped from her chair and bared her fangs at me. "You did what hundreds-no, THOUSANDS of Spirits of the Heavenly Body tried to do in not even a quarter of their age! I gave up because I thought it was straight up impossible, and you go ahead and do it in TWO
THOUSAND YEARS!"
"Actually, I think I've bean Archtype Earth for a few centuries now." And just like that, the chair Yu was using was smashed on my face.
