Third POV:
Shiki sighed as he started walking home. He was alone for once, and Arcueid told him that nothing weird - by human standards at least - should happen these next few days, so he finally had enough time to catch up on schoolwork.
Sometimes, Shiki wished his eyes worked on homework... Well, they did, but not in the way he wanted.
Stopping at crossroad, Shiki looked at the light sign, waiting for it to turn green.
"Rough day?" Someone asked and Shiki looked besides himself.
He blinked behind glasses. Shiki had met weird people lately, but the man in front him looked like something out of a manga. He looked somewhere between his mid and late twenties with long hair that started blue but turned green halfway through. He had red eyes, but the man's eyes were a brighter red than Arcueid's. He was wearing a black suit with a blue tie.
"Uhmm... kind of?" Shiki replied, cautious of the man.
The man looked at Shiki up and down before nodding. "Nice glasses," he commented.
"Thanks," Shiki nodded.
"They do a good job covering your eyes. Or, better yet, they do a good job covering what your eyes can see," Shiki froze as he understood the implication.
(He knows!) Shiki almost pulled out his blade but remembered where they were. There were too many civilians around and they were out in the open.
"Well, say hi to the princess for me," the man said as the light turned green.
The man walked across the street while Shiki did the same, only splitting up when they reached the other side. While the man continued his way, Shiki decided to follow him in secret.
Shiki watched as the man just walked around in the city before ending up in an empty construction sight. "Are you gonna come out now?"
Shiki decided that hiding was useless, so he walked out from behind the beam he was standing behind. "Who are you?"
"Wow, kid. Tone down the killing intent. I'm just in town for a visit," the man chuckled while raising his hands in mock surrender.
"Forgive me for not believing that," Shiki glared. "Are you another enemy of Arcueid's?"
"Ha!" The man barked a laugh. "Trust me, she'd do anything to avoid having me as an enemy for several reasons," the man suddenly hummed and rubbed his chin. "Hey, why don't we make a bet?"
"A bet?" Shiki asked.
"If you can scratch me, no matter how small it is, I'll tell you literally anything you want to know," the man explained while crossing his arms. "You can even use those fancy eyes of yours."
"You do know what would happen if I scratched you while using them, right?" Shiki asked. The man obviously knew about his mystic eyes, so why would he take the risk.
"Believe me, kid, those eyes of yours are the only chance you have at actually scratching me," the man stated with confidence.
"Fine," Shiki took his knife out and his glasses off.
He blinked in surprise. As he used his eyes lately, Shiki began to tell the difference between the lines of inanimate objects and the lines of living beings, and the man in front of him gave off the former. There was also no line connected to his existence. He can tell all the lines were connected to the body itself.
"Waiting for me to say 'start' or something?" The man taunted.
Shiki frowned but kept his head cool. Raising his knife, he rushed forward, his sighed set on one of lines on the arms to-
The next thing Shiki knew, he was on the ground on the other side of the construction sight on his back. He blinked as he tried to register what happened before noticing some pain in his right arm, thinking that the man must have judo threw him.
"Don't tell me that's all you got," the man chuckled. Shiki groaned as he stood back up. He held his knife forward and rushed again, slower this time as to be more cautious. Reaching the man, Shiki swung his knife only for the man to lean back and dodge. Another swing, and another dodge.
This kept going with Shiki trying to cut the man or even touch him, but he couldn't. After a couple of minutes, the man kicked Shiki in the gut, sending him away and on his back again.
"You have good speed and your attacks are precise, but your fragile," the man commented as Shiki stood back up. "You might need just one cut to take down your opponent, but they also need just one strike to take you down if they don't hold back."
"What's it to you?" Shiki asked, glaring at the man.
His opponent snorted and rolled his neck around. "Just a heads up. I'm going on the offensive now, so you're gonna have to start defending yourself."
Shiki tensed and raised his knife, preparing himself for whatever the man is-
"WHAT ARE YOU DOING!?" A familiar voice yelled out causing both Shiki and the man to look at the blond girl that was standing at the entrance of the construction sight.
"Arcueid, be careful!" Shiki cried out. "This guy is dangerous. He-"
"Zack, Why are you attacking Shiki?! And Shiki, why are you fighting Zack?!" Arcueid asked looking at them with absolute confusion.
Shiki just blinked while the man - Zack-sighed. "Well, fun's over. I guess," he shook his head and looked at the gawking schoolboy. "There's a cafe nearby. My treat," he said.
Ten minutes later, the three of them were sitting together at a table in a cafe, waiting for their order. "So... You're not an enemy?" Shiki asked, wearing his glasses again. "I told you, I was here for a visit," Zack chuckled as he rested his arms on the table. "I don't blame you for being cautious, considering the stuff you went through lately. But, you should also understand that not everything related to the Mystics is out to get you."
"S-Sorry," Shiki apologised while scratching the back of his head. "You could have explained the situation instead of going along, Zack," Arcueid scolded while crossing her arms.
"Hey, lay off me, I have way more restrictions from the world than you do. I need to take every chance for fun I can get," Zack simply shrugged unapologetically.
"So uhmm... Are you, you know, like Arcueid," Shiki felt somewhat awkward bringing the subject of race up. "Nah. If anything, I'm the natural enemies for Vampires like her," Zack shrugged.
"Don't think you're off the hook!" Arcueid almost slammed her hands on the table. "What would you have done if you killed Shiki?"
"Apologise?" Zack remarked, causing Arcueid to glare at him.
"I can take care of myself, Arcueid, "Shiki commented, feeling as though he was being treated like a child.
The Princess of True Ancestors sighed. "Believe me, Shiki, against anyone else, I would have believed you can do it. But, Zack is in his own league. I don't even think your eyes work on him." Shiki blinked in confusion, "What do you mean? I can clearly see his lines earlier."
"Let me ask you, were any of those lines related to my existence or just this body?" Zack asked and Shiki looked at him in surprise. "Thought so. This body is just a puppet. So, the lines you saw were for the body, not for me."
"A... Puppet?" Shiki looked confused.
"Zack's real body is way more different than this. He looks nothing like humans do," Arcueid commented, resting her chin on one of her arms.
"Yeah. In fact, my real body looks so different that the world itself has forbidden from using it unless I have to and made me use this puppet instead," Zack explained looking rather annoyed about that fact before shaking his head.
"Anyway, back to the subject. My real body is far more powerful and, quite frankly, if you tried to use your eyes on it, you wouldn't see any lines at all." That caused Shiki to look at the two of them in shock.
Something so powerful that his eyes doesn't work on was sitting in the same table as he was right now.
"Here's your order," the waiter came in and placed their orders on the table, Zack having ordered a large ice-cream with Shiki and Arcueid having juice. "One good thing about this puppet is that I actually get to eat and taste," Zack commented, taking a spoonful from the ice-cream.
Shiki couldn't believe that, with everything happening lately, a grown man enjoying ice-cream like a child would make him feel weird.
"So, why didn't you tell me you were coming, Zack?" Arcueid asked, taking a sip from her drink. "Do you have a phone for me to call?" Zack asked with a raised eyebrow.
"A... phone?"
"Do you have an actual address for me to send messages to?"
"Uhm..."
"Yeah, thought so," Zack just rolled his eyes.
"Anyway!" Arcueid immediately began changing the subject. "Why are you here."
"Just wanted to see the guy you're interested in."
*PFFFFFFT!"
Both Shiki and Arcueid did a spit-take as they a blush covered their cheeks. "W-What!?" They cried out. Zack just smirked. "So, when can I expect nieces and nephews to spoil?"
First POV: Zack
Arcueid then proceeded to throw a bulldozer at me.
A blond, OP vampire threw a bulldozer at me.
There was a joke there, I know it. I just can't remember what it is. I should really catch up to humanity's culture.
