"The third rune has a missing line, but you're getting better," Yggdrasil pointed out as I finished drawing runes on the ground.
"Like this?" I added one last line to rune, and it lit up before creating a small fire.
It's amazing how Runes do mystics on their own. I still have no magical properties and, to be honest, I don't think I'll ever fully use runes since they take way longer than my elements, but it never hurts to have them just in case.
And the fact I'm being taught by THE Yggdrasil is so amazing!
Who needs Scathach? Not me, that's for sure.
Boy, did that phrase come back to bite me in the ass.
"You're getting better. You only missed one line this time," Yggdrasil pointed out as the fire faded away and the runes were gone.
"You know, I can make fire as easily as a thought," I said, turning to my fire element. "So, why are you teaching me stuff like this?"
"Learning about Rune-craft is similar to learning a language. I can't teach you big sentences before teaching you the words," Yggdrasil replied. "After we get the basics down, I'm willing to teach you things that your elements can't achieve. Such as healing Runes in case you find someone injured."
Okay, she has a really good point there. "Hard to argue with that logic," I shrugged my shoulders while changing back to my wood element.
"Now, on to the next... that's not right," Yggdrasil mumbled in confusion.
"What's wrong?" I asked.
"There's... a human here. In the forest. And they're not alone. Go north as fast as you can!" Yggdrasil urgently said.
"What happened to the whole thing about dying with hon-"
"They're a child, Zack!"
Not even a second later before I was in my wind element, flying through the air as fast as I could. Thankfully, it didn't take me long to find the kid, and Yggdrasil was right, they weren't alone.
There was a human boy who was desperately running between the grey trees while something that resembled a sabertooth tiger followed it around. The boy, as cliché as that sound, ended up tripping on something and falling. The sabertooth tiger jumped at him, taking its chance.
I, obviously, wasn't gonna let that happen. Sending a wave of air, I knocked the tiger away while landing in front of the boy.
"Sorry, but dinner's off," I said and the tiger got back up and growled at me. "Is that how you wanna play it?" I changed my arm to fire and shot a small fire ball in front of the tiger, causing it to jump back, in caution. "Leave. The next one won't miss."
The tiger growled at me again, but still started backing away before turning around and running away. With
the tiger gone, I changed to my wood element and looked back at the boy.
He was on his back, looking up at me with wide eyes.
He had a light, somewhat pale skin tone with brown hair and black eyes. He was breathing heavily, most likely both tired and scared.
"Hey, buddy," I started off slowly as I kneeled down while trying to seem as harmless as I could. "You okay?"
The boy just kept staring at me for a few more moments before he suddenly fainted. I panicked for a moment and checked if he was breathing. To my relief, he was. I covered my arms with leaves and picked the boy up as gently as I could.
Hopefully, Yggdrasil will know what to do.
