"Not even a week back and he's already assigning me grunt work again," I groaned out as I flew through the air towards my destination.
It's only been a few days since Gilgamesh got back, but I haven't exactly gotten a chance to catch a break or go on a vacation.
I only got some free time for the first and second day since they were spent with Siduri chewing out Gilgamesh. That lady can seriously list a LOT of complaints.
Anyway, as soon as the third day came, Gilgamesh told me to check on a cave in the jungle near Uruk.
Apparently, the some 'strange activity' has been sighted near the cave, according to the guards, but they don't know what it is.
I didn't exactly have any positive feelings by investigating something that is considered strange in the age of gods.
"Alright, let's see what this is about," I groaned as I landed in front of the cave which looked as normal as they come.
A hole in the edge of a small cliff. I turned to my wood element and began sensing around. "Hmm... weird, I don't feel anything."
There was actually nothing around except the usual magical energy in the air.
That actually got me suspicious about the report since there doesn't seem to be anything in here.
But, I still needed to check just to make sure. I walked into the cave with my senses being on high alert just in case something tries to jump at me.
Suddenly, I did feel something from OUTSIDE the cave.
A really powerful magical energy was headed straight for the cave from the sky!
Third POV:
The entire area where the cave is suddenly exploded after a blast of golden light struck right at the entrance, leaving the area nothing more than a smoking crater. "Urgh, finally! That should be enough to deal with that weed," a feminine figure covered in golden light that was floating in the sky said before it flew away in high speed.
The figure left right before it got a chance to see the air inside the crater begin gathering up and taking shape, slowly forming Zack in his wind form, completely unharmed.
"Well," Zack groaned out, moving his neck around before looking at the sky where the figure vanished.
"That was rude."
First Person POV:
Seriously, what the hell was that about?
I would have investigated the situation more but there was no cave left and I couldn't track down where the
magical energy came from before it got out of the range of my senses.
So, I just flew back to Uruk to talk to Gilgamesh and Enkidu about it. Hopefully, we'll be able to figure out what happened.
It didn't take me long to reach the city, and I just went straight ahead towards the castle. But, just as I was about to enter the throne room, I heard something
interesting.
"Oh, so you're telling me that Zack had perished?"
Gilgamesh's voice asked.
"Indeed, our goddess witnessed it herself," a voice I didn't recognise said.
I looked inside the throne room without entering and saw that a few people wearing black, golden outlined robes were standing in front of the stairs that lead to the throne where Gilgamesh was sitting.
I recognised those robes. Those people were from Ishtar's cult.
"Hmm... are you absolutely sure that the brat saw him perish?" Gilgamesh asked with a bored tone. He was obviously not taking them seriously.
"You leave for years and we wait for you," I started as I walked into the throne room, causing the attention to turn to me. "And I leave for a few minutes and you write me off as dead? That's some faith you have in me, Gil."
Gilgamesh just scoffed with a smile but the priests - if that's what they were - couldn't look more shocked if they tried, "Y-You're alive!?" One of them yelled while taking a step back. "But how? Our goddess said-"
"Oh, so it was Ishtar that tried to blow me to pieces?" I asked with a scoff. "Thanks for confirming that, idiot. You're a model of intelligence."
"Fuhahaha! That idiotic brat!" Gilgamesh laughed while crossing his arms. "If killing Zack was an easy feat, I would have had him killed a long time ago!"
It's amazing how he can complement someone while insulting them at the same time.
"Our goddess said-"
"Quite frankly, we don't care," I cut off the priest from saying anything and turned to my fire element. "This is Uruk, and Gilgamesh is the king chosen by the people. He has the authority, not that brat of goddess. Leave before you overstay your welcome," I threatened him while walking closer, my fire form making me look more threatening.
The priest stayed quiet before he and his group left the throne room, leaving me alone with Gilgamesh.
"To think the brat would try something so bold as trying to kill you," Gilgamesh scoffed as he rested his head on one of his hands. "If nothing else, her boldness is admirable, but her stupidity for not coming up with an actual plan is a sign of stupidity."
"You think she'll try again?" I asked Gilgamesh while turning back to my wood element.
"Without a doubt," Goddammit, Gil can be too blunt sometimes.
Third POV: Somewhere else.
"WHAT DO YOU MEAN 'HE'S STILL ALIVE'?!?!"
