Chapter 1 - One And The Other

1 - One And The Other

•~•

"When applying physical science it is important to–"

The sound of chalk scraping against the board could be heard, repeating in the same mundane pattern as a man in a suit explained his piece.

The light of the sun reached the classroom, causing a small rectangular object to gleam above the doorway.

'Class A' Written on it.

The sound of a clock ticking went on and on, some of the students staring at it to keep track of the time, only for it to seem like time was passing slower under their watch, causing some of them to scoff in annoyance.

The constant sound of the teacher's voice only added to their annoyance. However, some only treated his teachings as natural, something they relate to the likes of white noise, a chime they doze to.

This sequence would continue to loop everyday, but thankfully for them, the current day's loop would soon be over.

Riiing! Riiing! Riiing!

As the sound of the bell rang, the students got up and rushed outside, each having their own arrangements be it entertainment or sports.

Though most of the students were already out, some still preferred to loiter around and have conversations with their friends before heading to their destinations.

In the corner of the classroom, there was one such group.

•~•

"I can't believe they're giving us so much stuff to do." One of the male students in the group spoke up with a tired sigh.

"Yeah! How the hell are we supposed to prepare for the party coming soon if we're buried under our work." An energetic voice agreed.

All gathered around in a circle, they shared their thoughts on a particular matter.

"Oh calm down Kali, it's not like you're gonna help with any of the projects anyways." A different female voice snickered, causing laughs to erupt in the group.

"Hey! I contribute a lot anytime there's a group project okay!" The energetic voice known as Kali huffed out, a futile attempt at trying to save her public image as they only laughed at her words.

"It's okay, we all know you try your best." A gentle voice resounded out, causing everyone to turn to her, an easy task seeing as they were all gathered around where she sat.

"See? Fia agrees!" Kali said with a grin.

"I really didn't.." The girl giggled.

Their chatter continued on with laughter, but eventually, time caught up.

"It's about the time when I have to go, I'll see you all tomorrow." The girl in the center said as she looked at the ticking clock.

"Aww! So soon?" Kali exclaimed as she plopped down on a table.

"See you tomorrow Fiane.." The tired voice, Washi said.

"Goodbye Fiane, we're gonna stick around for awhile, and see what Taku means when he says he has club activities."

"Ignore what Miko is saying, she's just being an idiot." Taku said as he sent a glare towards the teasing voice.

"All of you take care." Fiane chuckled.

Fiane packed up her things and started walking to the door. Along the way, she saw a certain boy, dead asleep on his desk, seeming like even an earthquake wouldn't be able to wake him up.

Chuckling inwardly, she walked up to him and poked his arm with her finger a few times, leaving the classroom shortly after.

Soon, the sleeping boy stirred awake, looking around him.

Realize that class was over he picked up his bags, and left as quickly as he woke up.

"That never fails to crack me up everytime." Miko laughed.

"Do you think he knows who wakes him up? It's basically a daily occurrence at this point." Kali said with a chuckle.

"Probably not, but what amazes me is that he wakes up from just a few pokes." Washi commented.

"Now, what was this about seeing what I mean about club activities Miko?"

•~•

Walking through the hallways of the school, Fiane was greeted at every turn, a testament to her reputation.

"Hi Fiane!"

"Nice to see you Fiane!"

"Going home Fiane?"

Waving them goodbye, Fiane turned another corner and let out a sigh.

•~•

Walking through the hallways of the school, a boy let out a yawn. Looking around, he saw numerous students, either on their way home or for club activities, some even stopping to talk to their acquaintances.

Turn after turn, the boy kept walking paying no mind to his surroundings, instead focusing on getting to his destination and the music blasting in his ears.

[♪ I can't breathe, waiting for the exhale. Toss my pain with my wishes in a wishing well ♪]

It was not long till he reached the gates of the school, walking through them he heard a call.

"Fiane! We'll see you tomorrow!" A voice shouted in the distance.

The boy glanced to his side, finding Fiane waving towards a group of girls.

As soon as the girls were out of sight, Fiane let out a sigh of relief.

Feeling that someone was staring at her, Fiane turned her gaze to the side and saw the boy looking at her.

Since the boy was taller than Fiane, she looked up a little bit and...

Their eyes met.

"..."

"..."

The boy looked away, and he went left.

Fiane looked away, and she went right.

Two opposites could never attract.

•~•

As the boy neared his destination, he stopped by a grocery store.

Going inside, he was greeted by a bright yet bland sight, a view that had become such a common sight that the boy felt it was tasteless.

Picking up the usual necessities such as eggs and milk, the boy went on to add an assortment of snacks and beverages to his basket.

'Its not here....' he thought to himself while looking at the shelves for snacks.

After paying for his stuff, the boy stopped by another grocery store.

'Its also not here...'

'Not here...'

'Still nothing...'

The boy wandered around the city, visiting every shop that he thought could have what he was looking for, only to still find nothing.

However, just as he was about to give up and go home, luck smiled upon him.

'I guess I'll just have to–' He was pulled out of his thoughts when he saw a food stand, that had exactly what he was looking for.

Going up to the owner he bought one of the snacks displayed on the stand, putting it inside his bag.

The boy, finally satisfied, started going his way home.

•~•

Opening the gate leading towards his house, the boy walked towards the door and fetched out a key from his pocket.

After unlocking the door, he took off his shoes and socks, setting them down beside a different pair of school shoes.

"I'm home!" He shouted out.

Silence hung in the air, before the sound of rushed footsteps could be heard.

"Welcome home!" Fiane greeted from the door leading inside the rest of the house.

Fiane was a popular girl, known for her kind personality and great looks, especially her jet black hair and eyes.

"Did you get it?" Fiane asked anxiously.

"Yeah I did, it wasn't in any of the regular stores I usually buy it from, but thankfully a food stand still had one left."

"Really? Thanks a lot!" She said excitedly, giving him a hug.

"Let's go inside, I'll get dinner ready in a few." Fiane added.

•~•

"Just put the groceries on the table."

The boy put the bags down on the table, and lied down on the couch infront of the tv, and closed his eyes.

Letting out a deep breath, the boy heard a voice above him.

"Should I start making dinner, or do you wanna rest first?" She asked him thoughtfully.

The boy opened his eyes, and his black eyes met hers.

Staring into the other's eyes, one asked what they should, and the other wondered what could.

No words were spoken but they understood.

The boy closed his eyes and turned over.

Fiane put a finger on her lips and chuckled, laying down beside him on the couch.

The boy wrapped his arms around her and she leaned into his chest, she closed her eyes and whispered.

"Thank you."
