Chapter 42 - Chapter 42: The Perfect Beginnings

The evening sky faded into hues of soft oranges and purples, casting a warm glow through the window of Ferdinand's apartment. The day had been long but exciting—filled with little moments of discovery as Ferdinand and Daisy officially started their journey together as a couple. It was new, thrilling, and more than anything, it felt right.

In the middle of the living room, Ferdinand and Daisy stood barefoot, dressed in their most comfortable clothes—both trying to settle into the newness of the day. Ferdinand, in his worn-out navy sweatshirt and gray sweatpants, looked at Daisy with a softness in his eyes. She wore an oversized t-shirt that hung loosely over her leggings, her hair slightly tousled from lounging around after a long week. There was no pressure to impress, just a mutual desire to be in each other's company.

Music floated through the apartment—a mix of their favorite songs that Daisy had insisted on playing. The sound of slow, mellow guitar chords echoed in the space as they swayed gently to the rhythm. Ferdinand hadn't danced in years, but tonight was different. Tonight, he wanted to hold her close, let go of the world for a while, and simply enjoy this moment.

With his arms wrapped loosely around her waist, he pulled her closer. Daisy rested her head on his chest, her arms finding their place around his neck. They didn't need to talk; the silence between them was enough, filled with the weight of everything they were feeling. It wasn't just the beginning of their relationship—it felt like the closing of an old chapter and the opening of a new one, one that was filled with hope and promise.

"You know," Daisy said softly, her voice muffled slightly against his chest, "I never pictured us like this."

Ferdinand raised an eyebrow, looking down at her with a small smile. "Oh? And how did you picture us?"

Daisy pulled back just enough to meet his gaze, her eyes sparkling with a playful glint. "I don't know... maybe awkwardly bumping into each other at the library and eventually getting kicked out for talking too loud."

Ferdinand laughed, his chest vibrating against hers. "Well, that part did happen."

"True," Daisy admitted with a grin. "But this? Us? Dancing in your apartment, ordering pizza, and acting like we've been together forever? I didn't expect it to feel this... easy."

Ferdinand's smile softened, his hand brushing a strand of hair away from her face. "Me neither," he said quietly. "But I'm glad it does."

They stood there for a few more moments, the music playing softly in the background as they moved in unison. It wasn't a formal dance—nothing choreographed or planned—but it was theirs. The simplicity of it made everything feel more real, more intimate.

Just as the song reached its final notes, the doorbell rang, breaking the peaceful silence. Daisy groaned playfully, reluctantly pulling away from Ferdinand.

"Pizza's here," she said, her eyes lighting up with excitement.

Ferdinand chuckled, stepping toward the door. "I'll get it. You find the movie."

Daisy gave him a mock salute before plopping down on the couch, scrolling through the streaming options on the TV. She could hear Ferdinand exchanging a few words with the delivery guy before he shut the door, the smell of freshly baked pizza already filling the apartment.

When he returned, Ferdinand carried two large pizza boxes, setting them down on the coffee table in front of her. Daisy's eyes widened as she took in the sight.

"You ordered two pizzas?" she asked, her voice full of faux astonishment.

Ferdinand grinned, sitting down beside her. "I didn't want us to run out. Plus, I know how much you like your toppings."

She laughed, playfully nudging him. "Good thinking, Ferdy."

He groaned at the nickname but smiled nonetheless. As they settled in, Daisy started the movie, and the two of them dug into the pizza, comfortably leaning against each other. The room was bathed in the warm glow of the TV, but neither of them was really paying attention to the screen. Their focus was on each other—every shared glance, every laugh, every touch.

Ferdinand couldn't help but steal glances at Daisy as she munched on her pizza, her legs tucked up under her, looking more comfortable than he had ever seen her. She was beautiful—not in the flashy, made-up way that some might expect, but in the way she simply *was*. Sitting beside him in the most relaxed, natural way, she felt like home.

As the movie played on, Daisy leaned her head against his shoulder, her hand reaching out to hold his. Ferdinand looked down at her, his heart swelling with emotion. How had he gotten so lucky?

"Hey," he whispered, his voice barely audible over the sound of the movie.

Daisy tilted her head up slightly, meeting his gaze. "Yeah?"

"I'm really glad you're here," he said softly, squeezing her hand.

She smiled, her eyes twinkling in the dim light. "Me too, Ferdinand. Me too."

They stayed like that for a while, finishing their pizza and watching the movie in comfortable silence. But as the final credits rolled, neither of them seemed ready for the night to end. Daisy reached for the remote, pausing the TV, and turned to face him fully.

"You know," she said, a mischievous smile tugging at her lips, "we never finished our dance."

Ferdinand raised an eyebrow. "Oh? You want to keep dancing?"

"Why not?" Daisy shrugged, standing up and offering him her hand. "I mean, it's our first official night as a couple. We should celebrate properly."

Ferdinand chuckled, taking her hand and pulling himself up from the couch. "Alright, alright. But don't blame me if I step on your toes."

Daisy rolled her eyes, playfully pulling him toward the center of the living room. "You'll be fine. Just follow my lead."

They stood there, close again, the soft sounds of music filling the room as Daisy reached for her phone and pressed play on another one of their favorite songs. This time, it was slower, more intimate. They swayed together, their movements in sync as they gazed at each other.

The world outside seemed to fade away, leaving just the two of them in their little bubble of happiness. The future felt full of promise, full of possibilities they hadn't even begun to explore. And for the first time in a long time, Ferdinand felt completely at ease—like he was exactly where he was supposed to be.

As the song played on, he leaned down, brushing a soft kiss against Daisy's lips. She looked up at him, her eyes full of warmth, and for a moment, everything felt perfect. There was no rush, no pressure, just the two of them enjoying the quiet, simple joy of being together.

Ferdinand smiled down at her, his voice barely above a whisper. "I could get used to this."

Daisy grinned, her arms tightening around him. "Me too."

And with that, they continued to dance, the world outside forgotten as they embraced the beginning of their new chapter together—just them, in the glow of the evening, dancing in the comfort of Ferdinand's apartment, ready to take on whatever came next.
