Chapter 8: The Secrets of Eleanor's Lab cont'd

The air crackled with the remnants of star energy, the room still recovering from the massive surge of power. Orion's hands trembled slightly as he held the Nebula Sword, its once-solid blade now unstable, flickering between forms. His attempt to transform it into the Cross Wheels had gone disastrously wrong, nearly tearing the lab apart. Layla, wielding the Nebula Spear that had only just reverted from its Bow form, let out a breath, the tension still palpable between them.

"That… wasn't supposed to happen," Orion muttered, still reeling from the experience. He glanced over at Layla, who was visibly shaken but otherwise unhurt.

Layla wiped her brow, letting out a nervous laugh. "No, definitely not. Those transformations are unpredictable… I guess your mom hadn't finished perfecting them."

They exchanged a look, both knowing that whatever they had discovered in the lab was far more dangerous than they had anticipated. Just as they began to regain their composure, the console in the corner of the room lit up, projecting a familiar hologram. Orion's heart leapt—it was his mother, Eleanor, her figure flickering into existence.

"Orion," her voice was gentle yet filled with a sense of urgency, "if you're seeing this, then you've found my final research. There is something I never told you about your father."

Orion's breath caught. His father—someone his mother had only mentioned in whispers, fragments of a story he had never fully understood. But now, the truth was within reach.

"He wasn't just a brilliant warrior," Eleanor continued, her expression somber. "He was one of the most powerful Nebula Grandmasters in existence. His mastery of star energy allowed him to do incredible things. But, in the end, it cost him everything."

The Nebula Sword in Orion's hand began to hum softly, its light growing stronger. The air around it vibrated with an energy Orion had never felt before. He looked down at the blade, a cold realization sweeping through him.

"In order to preserve his legacy," Eleanor's voice faltered, but she quickly regained her composure, "I was able to bind a fragment of his soul to the Nebula Sword. He's been waiting… waiting for you to be ready."

Before Orion could process her words, the Nebula Sword pulsed, emitting a radiant burst of light. The lab was filled with a brilliant blue glow, and slowly, a figure began to materialize before them. Tall, commanding, with sharp features and piercing blue eyes that mirrored Orion's own—the figure of Astron, Orion's father.

"I've been watching over you, Orion," Astron's voice was deep, resonant, and filled with a quiet strength. "Waiting for the day you would take up the Nebula Sword and walk the path I once did."

Orion stood frozen, his mind racing. The figure before him—his father, alive in some form, bound to the weapon that had shaped his life.

"I am Astron," the figure said. "Your father. And like you, I was chosen by the Nebula Sword. It's more than just a weapon. It is a conduit for the power of the stars themselves, and in time, you will learn to wield it as I once did."

Layla, who had been standing silently beside Orion, finally spoke. "A Nebula Grandmaster?" she whispered, awe and disbelief clear in her voice. "That's… incredible."

Astron's gaze shifted to her, his eyes softening slightly. "Yes. And you, Layla, have been chosen by the Nebula Spear. Your journey is intertwined with Orion's. The Nebula weapons have chosen their wielders, and together, you will unlock their true potential."

Orion felt a surge of emotion—pride, confusion, and a strange sense of relief all at once. "I don't know what to say…"

Astron's figure flickered slightly, but his presence remained strong. "You don't have to say anything. The path ahead will be difficult, but I will guide you. There are stages to mastering the Nebula Sword—stages that even I had to pass through. You've already reached Nebula Novice, but the true power of the Sword lies far beyond that."

Orion's grip tightened on the hilt of the Sword, a determination sparking within him. "And you'll teach me?"

"I will," Astron nodded. "I will teach you everything I know. But be warned—mastering the Nebula Sword is not just about power. It is about understanding the balance between the stars and the void, light and darkness. If you lose control, the energy will consume you."

Layla glanced down at her own weapon, the Nebula Spear now pulsing softly in her hands. "What about me?" she asked, her voice steadier now. "What do I need to do to master the Spear… and the Bow?"

Astron turned his attention back to her. "Your path is similar to Orion's, but the Nebula Spear responds to different energies. Where the Sword draws on the direct force of stars, the Spear and Bow are more fluid, more adaptable. In time, you'll learn to shift between the two forms, harnessing the power of both the Nebula Spear and Bow as if they were one."

Layla's heart raced. The Spear had always felt like a natural extension of herself, but the thought of mastering two weapons, intertwined in one, was both thrilling and daunting.

"I'll be ready," Layla said with quiet confidence, her eyes meeting Orion's for a brief moment.

"We'll both be ready," Orion added, his voice firm.

Astron smiled faintly, his figure flickering again. "Then let us begin. You are both at the start of a long journey. But remember—together, you will be stronger. The Nebula weapons have chosen you for a reason."

Orion and Layla stood side by side, the weight of their destinies settling on them. But for the first time, they didn't feel overwhelmed. They felt… prepared.

As the hologram of Astron began to fade, his voice lingered in the air. "Master the stages, and you will command the stars themselves."
