Chapter 11 - 11

**Chapter 11: The Hunt Begins**

Tensions in Zombo country were reaching unbearable levels. The task force, comprised of hundreds of police officers and soldiers, was in full mobilization to investigate the disappearance of Captain Arthur Mendes and the growing presence of the VLP community in the forest. Over the past 27 years, several people had disappeared without a trace, and the pressure to solve the mystery was intense.

General Ricardo Alves, a middle-aged man with a respectable military career, was leading the operation. He met with his officers in a makeshift command room, where maps and reports on the disappearances covered the tables. "We need to act quickly," the general said, his voice firm and authoritative. "Mendes is one of our own, and we cannot allow the VLP to continue to operate with impunity in the forest."

The officers nodded, nervous about the magnitude of the task ahead. "We need a solid strategy. "If the VLP is really behind the disappearances, we need to be ready for anything," one of the lieutenants replied, adjusting his glasses as he looked at the map.

As the discussion continued, the General's cell phone rang, interrupting the tense atmosphere in the room. He looked at the screen and saw that it was an unknown caller, but he answered it, already aware that it could be crucial information. "Hello?" he said, with a tone of authority.

The voice that came from the other end made his heart race. "It's me. Are you ready?"

The General frowned. "Mendes? Is that you?" A wave of relief and confusion washed over him. The missing Captain was on the phone, and that meant he was alive.

"Yes, it's me. The situation is more complicated than you imagine. I need you and your task force to change focus. The VLP is not just a community; they have a structure and an agenda that goes beyond what you think."

"Where are you, Mendes? We need to find you!" The General felt a surge of determination, but also a growing concern. What had happened to Mendes to make him part of this community?

"I am safe, General. I am inside the VLp, and I cannot explain everything right now. What you need to know is that they are not just villains. They welcome those who have been rejected by society. But they are also dangerous. We need to proceed with caution."

The conversation continued, and Mendes explained the situation. He spoke of the transformation he had undergone in recent months, of how the community was seen as a refuge by many, but also as a threat to anyone who dared to invade its territory. The task force would need to be strategic, as any sudden move could put Mendes' life at risk.

The General listened carefully, absorbing every word. "Understood, Mendes. Let's adjust our plan. Your knowledge of the VLp will be crucial to any future operation. We will bring you back, and we need to gather as much information as possible."

"Be careful with the direct approach, General. The VLP will not hesitate to defend itself. We need a strategy that involves more than brute force," Mendes warned, his voice thick with urgency.

"Understood. We are ready to act. I will coordinate with the rest of the task force and we will make a plan that takes your information into account. We promise you will return home."

With that, the call ended, and the General turned to the officers around him, the determination in his gaze renewed. "Mendes is alive and has vital information. We need to adapt our approach. This is not just a rescue mission; it is an operation to understand the VLP and its methods."

The officers began to mobilize, and the command room quickly became a hive of frenetic activity. The General knew he was about to enter a dangerous game, but now he had an advantage: Mendes' knowledge. He would not only fight to bring the Captain back, but also to unravel the mysteries surrounding the VLP community.

The hunt had begun, and the forest of Zerk was about to become the scene of an unexpected confrontation between what was considered justice and what represented Mendes' new life.
