Midnight: Gotham City
In the middle of a crime-ridden city, in a run-down old apartment, a boy who looks to be in his late teens is seen sleeping in a small bed filled with holes. The boy's skin is extremely pale. His body was thin and frail as if he hadn't eaten in weeks. If someone were to see him, most would think that he was dead.
Suddenly, with a jolt of energy, the boy sat up, gasping for air with sweat and panic covering his face.
"W-what the hell happened?" the boy spoke his head pounding with pain
"I-I was shot...I remember getting shot...and that message," the boy said holding his head in pain
"H-how am I alive...this shouldn't be possible," the boy thought, pinching his skin
Virgil, please calm down. Your emotions are all over the place.} spoke a voice in Virgil's head as a blue orb appeared before him
Hearing the voice in his head, Virgil looked around to find the source. But to his utter surprise, he was a floating blue orb floating before him
(W- What is that thing? Did it just speak to me?) Virgil asked himself
{Yes, I did}
"What are you? And where am I? I should be dead," Virgil said, looking around
{Well my name is Sabastian. I am the Systems assistant here to help you understand your purpose and what happened to you. I'm sorry to say, but you were killed by that gunshot during the robbery} the screen replied
"My purpose?... Please explain what happened to me. Wait, my family, are they okay?" Virgil asked,d slightly panicked
{Well, to save you, the system transferred your soul into an empty body that was yet to decompose}
"System...you keep saying that what is 'the system'?" Virgil asked
{Well, the system is the system. The best way to describe it would be like those RPG games you humans have. It tracks your abilities and gives you a numerical value for them. Provides you with missions and quests to get stronger for you to reach the end goal}
"End goal...do you mean my so-called purpose?" Virgil asked sitting
{Yes, that would be correct.} Sabastian
"...Then what is my purpose? Why did you save me? And my family, you still haven't told me if they are okay," Virgil said, still confused
{The end goal is for you to become the perfect combination of technology and magic, and your family is fine. They will continue to live their life just without you} Sabastian explained
"Oh...I see. Magic is real. No, it's clearly real; I'm talking to a floating orb. I mean, I can use it?" Virgil asked

"Well...T-that's a lot. Last thing: can you tell me where I am?" Virgil said his mind rattled with information

Seeing the screen telling him he was in the DC universe, Virgil could not help but sigh at his luck.
"DC...that isn't what I expected to hear. Nor is it a place I would want to be," Virgil sighed

Living things can be placed in the inventory.] [Missions: Missions are given to the host to help him get stronger while giving rewards that could provide bonus help.] Last but not least, [Shop: The shop can be used to buy weapons, armor, skills, and many other things that will help the host. Currency is gained from defeating enemies and completing missions.] Well, that's all you have unlocked for now} Sabastian explained
"Wait, that means there are other functions. How many more are there?" Virgil asked
{Three more functions can only be unlocked once the host reaches a certain level of strength} Sebastian replied
"I see...well, can you show me my stats?" Virgil asked, pushing away those locked functions for now
