The night passes without any issues and I woke up early, ready for another day of training. Just like yesterday, I started heading toward where I had previously found the wind wolves. On the way, I came across 2 pine deer. Like usual, they took off running as soon as they noticed me. I managed to take down one to serve as my breakfast and just left the other one to escape.
Once I had finished eating, I started my search for a lone wind wolf but even after a couple of hours I didn't manage to find any. I did find a monster I had never seen before, called a bucktooth squirrel but it disappeared into the trees before I could even get close to it.
I'm calling it a monster, but I'm not even sure if it really was one. It looked exactly the same as a squirrel from earth apart from it was a dark green colour. Its rank was unclassified so I guess it technically was a monster, just an incredibly weak one.
Only after another hour did I finally find what I had been searching for. A lone wind wolf, heading towards the river. I ran towards it, making sure it knew I was coming and engaged it in battle. After already killing 3 of them, I've become quite adapt in fighting them, and the battle pretty much went the same as the others.
I managed to level up both bite and prediction this time, bringing them both to level 4. I've been feeling good about the steady increase in the levels of my skills but I know that it's not always going to be this easy. I can only prolong the fight for so long, and soon it won't be long enough for them to level up.
I eat most of the wind wolf and decide to head upstream of the river to continue my search. I've never traveled this way before so I'm curious to what I will find, as well as a bit hopeful that there will be more wind wolves in this area.
I only need to kill 2 more rank to monsters to finish my quest, but other than the wolves, they're not that easy to find.
As i'm walking alongside of the river, I hear a loud splash sound. I turn my head to look at the source of the sound, just to be hit in the face by a cold jet of water. Caught by surprise, I'm knocked over onto my side, falling in an almost comical manner.
I jump to my feet and look towards where the attack came from, but am unable to find the culprit. My guess is that they're hiding under water, because even with my spacial awareness I am unable to locate them.
Giving my body a good shake to try and get myself as dry as possible, I continue to walk alongside the river, waiting for whatever it was to make its move again.
Roughly a minute later I see another jet of water come flying towards me. I easily avoid it and stare at the spot I see it come from. Even when I was watching, I still didn't manage to see what was causing the attacks.
Whatever it was, was actually attacking from underneath the water, not giving me any chance to see it. Truthfully, i'm a little annoyed about its method of attack but at the same time, slightly impressed. It's a foolproof way to fight, without putting your self in harms way which I admire but being on the receiving end of it as aggravating.
Although the attack doesn't hurt me, I'm sure that it would do a decent amount if damage to a river rat if it managed to hit.
"Sigh..."
I end up moving a bit further inland to avoid whatever it is. I don't have any long ranged attacks and I can't swim so i didn't have any plans to fight it anyways, I just wanted to see what it was but if its not going to show its self, then I'm better off moving away from the river.
I continue heading downstream, no longer worrying having to worry about random jets of water, when I suddenly hear a loud squeal. I quickly prepare to fight whilst looking in the direction the noice came from.
About 5 seconds later a large boar like monster came bursting out of some bushes running in my general direction. It didn't seem to have noticed me, so I quickly ducked into a nearby bush and activate stealth, before using appraisal.
[level 2 gluttonous boar]
[rank: 2]
As it got closer I saw that it had four tusks, two on either side of its snout as well as sharp claws instead of hooves. It had saliva constantly drooling from its mouthing and blood red fur, giving it a much scarier look than its level suggests.
I was about to try and confront it, when I noticed that its fur wasn't actually red, it was just a plain brown colour and only looked red because it was soaked in blood and covered in deep scratches. I wondered what kind of monster could have caused these injuries, when I heard an all to familiar sound of jaws snapping and angry snarls.
Not long after, I saw five black wolves burst through the same bushes the boar did. I wondered if they were the same wolves that had destroyed my den and chased me, but quickly banished the thought from my head when I realised that now wasn't the time.
In a letter of seconds, the boar followed by the wolves would be passing right where I was hiding.
I now had two options.
Start running and hope that they ignored me to continued to chase the boar or stay hidden and hope they didn't notice me.
The problem with the second option was that I didn't have enough confidence in stealth to think that they wouldn't notice me and I would become the easier target because I wasn't running.
Choosing the first opinion, I took off running, heading further into the forest . Tacking a look beside me as I ran I see two of the wolves had abandoned their chase of the bore and chose to chase after me instead.
I cursed in my mind and carried on running, weaving in and out of the trees getting further away from them in the process. Even without activating dash I was still faster than them, giving me a boost of confidence in my abilities.
Unlike last time I wasn't scared. I was a lot stronger now and there was only two of them. I soon realised that this was an opportunity to finish my quest, whilst seeing how I coped against two enemies of the same rank.
I slowed down my pace and let the slowly catch up to me. Last time, they destroyed my den and nearly chased me to my death, but this time, I was going to fight back. This time I was going to show them the difference between a dumb wolf that thinks about nothing but chasing its prey and an intelligent fox, that had been honing its skills for fights just like this.
I was going to kill them.
