I stare back at the golden eyes whilst holding my breath, hoping that they can't see me because of my stealth skill. They belong to some kind of wolf. Its head looks huge, far bigger than what I imagined a head of a wolf would be. It was pure black apart from its golden eyes, making it hard to see even with my night vision.
Without warning it growled and tried forcing its way down the hole, snapping its jaws at me. I quickly moved as far backwards as I could, sticking my self to the far wall of the den. I can still fell its hot breath as frantically tried to reach me, spraying me with its spit in the process.
I come back to my senses as the spit hits my face and cancel my stealth skill. It's not working anyways and I need to save as much MP as I can, if I'm going to somehow get out of this. It doesn't look like the wolf is going to be able to get to me just yet so I have a little bit of time to try and figure out what I'm going to do.
I activate appraisal, hoping it will tell me what level it is.
[unable to appraise]
Great...This thing is stronger than me, and from what I can hear, there's a few more of them out there. It doesn't give me the same feeling as the giant spider, so I think it's the same rank as me but a higher level. If that's the case I should be able to fight one of them but not a group of them like this.
I look at the hole and see it's already starting to get bigger. If the wolf continues to attack as it is then it won't be too long before it's able to reach me. The only good thing is that it doesn't seem too smart. Rather than using its claws to dig at the entrance, making it big enough for it to enter, it seems to be acting like a deranged beast that hasn't eaten in weeks.
Even so, if I don't do something soon, I'm going to end up as wolf food. I decide to do the only thing I can do and fight back whilst the wolf can't reach me. I activate my shadow magic and create a shadow covering its eyes. It doesn't even react and continues trying to force its way in.
Then timing it for when the wolfs mouth is closed, I activate void claw and attack its snout. It yelps in pain and quickly withdraws its head. I only managed to create three deep groves on its snout, it wasn't much but at least I know I can hurt it.
Almost instantly after another wolf is in its place, trying to do the exact same thing. I can hear the other wolves snarling and growling around the wolf that is trying to get in. I can't tell how many there are but it sounds like there's a lot of them.
I do the same thing to this wolf, just for another wolf to take its place. this happened a few more times and I'm honestly surprised by the fact that they all just do the same thing.
I know nows not the time to be thinking about such things but are they really so stupid that they can't figure out another way to attack?
So far I've attacked 8 different wolfs and one of them I have even attacked twice. I know I had already attacked it before because I could see the three cuts on its snout before I attacked it again. The only problem is the hole is getting bigger and bigger. I can see cracks appearing around the side of the hole, giving me the impression that it's going to give way soon.
I need to get out of here but the only way I can think of leaving here is to teleport. But if I teleport out of here, I'm going to be surrounded by wolves so I decided to wait until the last moment before teleporting out. This way I can damage the wolves as much as I can first.
I manage to attack the wolves another 4 times before I see the earth around the hole start to give way. I instantly start activating my space magic and manage to teleport just as the wolf breaks through, narrowly avoiding being bitten.
I reappear in the air 7 meters above the ground and instantly start activating my space magic again. I decided to teleport into the air so I wouldn't be surrounded as soon as I appeared, giving me enough time to teleport again.
As I'm falling, I notice all the wolves have dove straight towards my den. None of them have noticed I managed to escape and am right above them!
I manage to finish activating my magic before landing on them and teleports several meters away. I instantly activate dash and start sprinting away. A couple of seconds pass and I hear a few snarls and the snapping of jaws followed my the sound of footsteps chasing after me.
I take the risk of glancing over my shoulder to see all 8 wolves chasing after me. They're constantly barging into each other, as if they're fighting to get to me first, yet they're still slowly gaining on me. Again I'm amazed about how stupid these wolves seem to be. there nothing like the wolves from earth that work together to catch there prey, if they were they would surly be a lot closer to me than what they are now.
Thankful for their low intelligence, I keep sprinting upstream. I need to find away to get away from them before my dash skill runs out. I keep running, trying to figure out what to do before setting my sight on the river.
It's about 15 meters wide so I should be able to teleport across if I teleport consecutively. The only question is whether the wolves are able to swim across or not. Which no other option I decide to give it a try. I activate my space magic and appear above the river, before activating it a second time and appearing on the other side.
[ding!]
[space magic has levelled up to level 2]
I look at the wolves toes what they would do, just to see 2 of them jump directly into the river. I curse them in my mind and prepare to start running again, when I notice that they're just flailing about, slowly sinking.
Did they really jump into the river not knowing how to swim?
Again shocked by the stupidity of these creatures, I turn away and start making my way into the forest. I really can't understand how such stupid creatures have managed to survive until now.
