I instantly crouch down, trying to make sure I don't get notice as I take a better look at the strange creature.
It's about a foot long and only about half a foot tall. It has a brown, wrinkly face with a long nose. It's two front teeth, a disgusting yellow colour, protruding from its mouth. Its body is covered in a dirty green fur with a long, muddy brown tail attached to its rear end. It has four feet, the front two having three sharp claws with a green tinge to them, looking slightly too big for it's body.
It's a rat. It dosnt look like any rat I have ever seen but it's definitely a rat. Thinking about it I don't know what I expected, I don't look like any fox I had ever seen on earth so why would other creatures look the same?
But really a rat? Why does the first creature I see have to be a rat? Why couldn't it be a cute little bunny or even a squirrel? Does my 1st meal in this world really have to be a rodent?
I'm seriously considering leaving to see if I can find something else, I still have four and a half hours left, so I should be able to find something else but there's no guarantee.
What if I can't find anything or what if the next creature I find is a lot bigger or stronger? Am I really going to risk failing this quest, to risk death just because I don't want to eat a rodent? Plus it's by its self so I really does seem like my best option for now.
I gather my courage and prepare myself mentally for my fist fight is this world. I slower creep forward doing my best not to alert the rat of my presence, I couldn't have been doing a very good job, because as soon as I get about 10 meters away the rat stops drinking and looks straight at me with its glowing green eyes.
Before I even get time to register that a have been discovered, it lets out a high pitched squeal and start sprinting straight towards me.
I froze. I couldn't move, I couldn't move a muscle, I couldn't even blink. The sight of them glowing green eyes coming closer and closer made me feel as if it could look at my very soul.
This wasn't a game. This thing genuinely wanted to kill me. This was a hundred times worse than when Blake killed me, maybe because I could actually sense its pure killing intent.
This wast like a game. I had been treating this whole situation as if I was just playing, only now realising that this was truly life or death. Am I really going to die again? It hasn't even been a whole day and yet I can already see the end.
It's leaps up iron the air, I can see it readying its claws, preparing to strike. It's as if the reaper of death has come to claim my very existence.
I close my eyes, already giving up. I think of my parents, the love they had for me, the care and concern they showed me arfter I confined my self into my room.
I remember Sophie, the fun we had playing adventure simulator, the fun we had at the event we went to when we finally met and finally the betrayal. I remember the look of disgust on her face when she told Blake to hurry up.
No! I'm not going to accept this! All that anger I felt as I was falling slowly coming back to me. They wanted me dead, so now I'm going to do my damn best to survive!
I open my eyes just as the rats claw scratches across my face.
Ahh it's hurts!
I fall to the side, doing my best to quickly get back to my feet.
I'm still alive. Although injured I can still fight. The fact that I am still alive tells me that this rat isn't too high a level.
I can still do this!
I jump to the side as it takes another swipe at me, barely dodging the attack. I quickly try to control the rats shadow, willing it to cover its head.
Suddenly unable to see, the rat starts shaking its head, swinging its claws wildly.
Now's my chance!
I lunge at it aiming using bite its neck and end this battle in one hit but miss, only able to bite its front claw.
SCREEEECH!!
The rat cries out in pain, swing its other claw, managing to scratch my face yet again.
I let out a loud yelp and roll to the side. This attack hurt far more than the first one, I don't know if I'll be able to take another hit.
I activate my shadow magic, covering its eyes again. This time the rat seemed to figure out it was me causing it to go bling and lunges at me, it's slower than befor due to its injured leg so I'm able to dodge a lot easier now.
I dodge to the left and the lunge straight back at the rat, activating bite I manage to bite the rats neck. I can feel its blood fill my mouth as the rats movement slows to a stop, my mouth still clamped around its neck.
[ding!]
[you have killed a moss rat and gained 30 xp]
I drop the moss rat and slump down to the ground. That battle was a lot harder than I expected but it really opened my eyes to what my life has become. I'm no longer human but a fox. A fox that is going to have to fight life and death battles just to survive.i need to steel my self otherwise I'm never going to be able to survive.
Looking down at the moss rat, I etch its sight into my memory. This is the first time I have ever killed anything, and I don't think it will be my last. I will have to kill a lot more to get stronger and survive in this new world.
So this rat was called a moss rat, remembering the system notification, and I only gave me 30 do. I wonder how much I actually need to level up.
Sigh... do I really need to eat this? It looks so disgusting and dirty.
Bringing up the mission to check and make sure I didn't miss anything that could potentially get me out of eating the moss rat, I notice something I missed earlier. This world is called Cronus.
I was too engrossed in the fact that I only had 5 hours that I completely missed this crucial bit of information! It dosnt really help me much other than solidifying my theory of this not being earth but it's still good to know.
Reading the rest of the mission, I realise I really do have to eat this moss rat. Closing my eyes I slowly lean down to take my first bite.
