Chapter 5 - First quest!

[ding!]

[quest received...]

[it's your first day on Cronus and you still haven't eaten! Hunt and eat your first prey!]

[time limit: 6 hours]

[difficulty: normal]

[rewards: 100xp and 3 stat points]

[penalty for failure: death!]

Hmm this quest isn't bad. I need to learn how to hunt anyways, but I'm not too keen on the idea of simply having to eat whatever animal it is that I kill.

I suppose I am a fox now so it makes sense that I would have to hunt and kill, but the penalty for failure is death! Doesn't that mean that even if I find so fruit or coming to eat I'll still end up dead anyways! I haven't even seen any animals around! And I only have 6 hours!

The rewards aren't bad though. 3 stat points, this means that I can get stronger without having to level up. I'm not sure about the 100xp though, I don't even know how much xp I need to actually level up.

Right, fist of all I should pick a skill to buy, if I was to follow the ways of the protagonist then I would get appraisal. That way I could pick an enemy that's I can actually kill, but I have a feeling that if I get it it's only going to be level 1, and I doubt that's going to let me see the level of my opponent.

Shadow magic it is then!

Opening the skill shop I select shadow magic.

[shadow magic]

[grants the user the ability to use manipulate shadows at a basic level. As skill level rises so will the users understanding of shadow magic, granting greater use]

[ would you like to purchase shadow magic for 100 skill point?]

[yes/no]

Wait selecting the skill bring up a description! I hurriedly select no. This system really need to come with a manual or something, if I had known this earlier I wouldn't have been so indecisive.

First I should check out the description of some of the other skills, you never know, one of them might help me finish this quest easier. I think I'm check roar, danger sense and appraisal. The others seem self explanatory. Fist I select roar.

[roar]

[give the user the ability to let out an intimidating roar, stunning your opponent for 0.5 seconds. Only effective on those the same level or weaker. Cooldown 5 minutes]

[would you like to roar for 100 skill points?]

[yes/no]

No, next I'll check danger sense.

[danger sense]

[grants the user the ability to sense danger within a radius of half a meter.]

[would you like to purchase danger sense for 100 skill points?]

[yes/no]

No! Next up is appraisal, although I can already gusee roughly what it's going to say.

[appraisal]

[grants the user the ability to see basic information of any being/object of the same level or lower within the users field of vision.]

[would you like to purchase appraisal for 100 skill points?]

[yes/no]

No! Ahh now I don't know what to pick. Well I can rule out danger sense, with its effective range of only half a meter, it's practically useless to me. My agility's only 2 so I don't think I'll be able to react in time. That leave shadow magic, appraisal and roar.

If I pick appraisal I'll at least if it works, I'll know the enemy is the same level as me, but I don't know if I have enough time to search for a level 1 enemy. I only have 6 hours plus even if I find one it dosnt mean I'll be able to kill it. A level 1 bear is definitely stronger that a level 2 rabbit. So searching for something that's definitely level 1 just doesn't seem like a god idea.

Roar seems like a good skill but again it only works on opponents the same level so I could buy it just for it to end up being useless.

Sigh...

I think I'll just get shadow magic after all. None of the other skills seem like they will be of any use at my level.

[would you like to purchase shadow magic for 100 skill points?]

[yes/no]

Yes!

[you have purchased shadow magic level 1]

As soon as I confirm, a sudden warmth comes over me and a flood of information enters my brain, it only lasts about a second and as soon as it's over I feel as if I can Instinctively use shadow magic.

Honestly I'm a bit disappointed, from the information I received I can already tell I can't do much. All I can really do is move the shadows around abit, and the don't cause any actual damage. I try it out anyways, I wanna see if I can figure out if I can use to help me complete this quest.

I run it on a tree not to far away, the shadow of the tree moves in what ever way will it to but I can't actually detach it from the tree, nor can I make any physical shape but I can make actually cover the tree.

I wonder...

I stop using shadow magic on the tree and instead start using it on my self, making it cover my face.

Woah im blind!

I quickly stop using the magic please with my new discovery. With this I should be able to blind my opponent and atack without them even seeing me! Now I should have a chance at victory given my opponent isn't too high a level, I just have to find one first.

I think I'll search up stream. I don't want to find an opponent that's too strong, so hoping to find something like a squirrel or a rabbit. Only small animals like these should use this stream as a water source and it's better the searching blindly.

After following the stream for about an hour I still haven't found anything. I think if I haven't found anything in the next hour I'll try searching some place els. Just as the thought crosses my mind I notice a strange green creature up ahead drinking from the stream...
