Chapter 11 - Glimpse

Leon could feel the man's presence close, his senses sharp, by the darkness behind his closed eyelids.

The faint sound of pendants broke the silence, followed by the soft sound of jars shifting.

The boy could feel the man's quiet breath, his skin could feel the man's gaze against his eyes, with both his eyes closed.

For a moment, Leon wondered what would happen if he dared to open them.

But he resisted, keeping his thoughts buried in the darkness and not letting them get to the light.

...

When Leon opened his eyes, the room had changed. The man still had the key, but now the skull attached to the end of the key was emitting a sound- a low, unsettling sound that made Leon uneasy.

It reminded him of a piece of chalk being dragged violently across the blackboard, its grating sound mixed with something more disturbing than that, like faint cries begging for help.

The sound crawled under his skin, and Leon felt goosebumps. His skin reacted to the sound coming out of the skull, and his body turned hot as if he had a fever.

The man paid no attention to it as if he was not hearing it, instead, he began pushing his thumb into the skull's mouth, with each press, the sound grew worse- sharper, more agonizing.

Leon felt as if the whole place started to scream in pain.

Slowly the sound started to reduce, but the man had a smirk looking at the skull.

In small writing green illuminating texts appeared below the skull, runes I may call.

They were not written in Lukress.

...

The room appeared boring, it had no paintings, had an even-numbered of lamps on both of the side walls, with a single lamp on the front and back. The total number of lamps was 14.

Leon looked around and his thoughts went wild like an untamed horse.

Ahh, why did I even accept this man's offer? This feels like I am in the Thief's Passage, except the entire passage is this man alone.

Heck, I won't even be surprised if he is going to cook me

And how can something like this even happen?

This feels like something out of a play.

This does not seem like just changing rooms, this feels more like changing the whole building.

The colours are different. Wait, how can this building even have floors? This is just a single-story building. The size is different from the previous room.

...

After finishing his internal monologue, he looked around again.

Leon noticed that the aesthetics compared to before was changed.

The room looked boring.

It had nothing to be decorated with, nothing was hanging on the ceiling or the walls, like the pendants on the previous room they were in.

The room had no windows, the source of light was just lamps.

The room had four walls. The room was more of a rectangle than any other shape.

The two long sides were suited with fourteen lamps in total, seven on each side. Then, there were two extra lamps on the two short walls, one for each.

Connecting the lamps were pipes coloured in bronze or copper. It seemed that the pipes were transporting gas, or whatever was used to light the lamps.

...

Blood. The strange man muttered.

"Huh?, Sorry What was that?"

"Oh, nothing, I was talking to myself and boy, you, look around and find the one which is to your liking.

...

In the room, there was nothing which piqued the boy's interest, except for the tables and the items were placed on.

In the room were four tables, each had a symbol carved into their surface.

The table on the corner, which was left to Leon, represented 'The Moon', and had been painted Grey. The symbol depicting 'The Moon', was a little bird being nurtured by an older woman.

The second table looked quite old. It had been painted white, and had bore the old symbol of, "The Lord of Light". It was the 'Sun'. The symbol was an eagle soaring high in an colourless sky.

As for the third table, it was coloured pitch back, except for little dots of white and grey.

Leon did not know the title of the 'God', nor the name of the 'god'.

The symbol carved on its surface was an 'eye', and a 'Face'.

A face without features it was.

An 'Eye and Face' having their names lost?

A 'Face', having lost its freedom?

A 'Face', having its face stolen?

The 'Eye', seemed to be sad...

It had been betrayed it seemed.

But by whom? And Why?

These questions did not wander the eyes of Leon...

But was wondering in 'My' eyes...

....

The fourth table was the furthest to the right. It was of nothing special. It had just a bunch of hard masks kept on...

The masks were of different colour combinations. In them were two placed in the right and left corners which looked a little special.

One was completely white with a little black mixed...

The other was completely black with no colour mixed with...
