Chapter 52 - Organ trafficking rizz

It was soon morning, and Elias had had a sleepless night. Louis hadn't woken up yet, and Elias had put off going home until he met with the other, at least once. Since he would have to be on leave, he was also hoping to get some work done beforehand. After all, he was the head of the cardiology department, so he had to make necessary preparations to ensure everything ran smoothly in his absence.

It was late morning when a nurse approached him with Raphael's discharge papers. A surprised look dawned in his eyes...oh right. Today was Raphael's discharge too. He glanced at the papers and was just sighing as he signed it when, lo and behold, he heard some commotion in the hallway, and obviously, Raphael was there, holding a ridiculously large bouquet of roses and chocolates. Which did not look platonic. At all.

Raphael just smirked when he saw the blonde come out. Right now, he was in his usual perfectly pressed suit, styled hair, and looked every bit of the confident and charming lawyer he was. A stark difference from his earlier vulnerable appearance or his worried demeanor last night- right now, he looked like the usual, flirty, suave Raphael. He observed the doctor, who looked... not that good right now. His clothes were messy, and though he'd changed into a spare pair he had in his office after the accident, he still looked weary and tired. A crutch was clutched in his left hand—the same side where the ankle was injured. He looked very much done with whatever shit Raphael was planning, which just made the lawyer's smile a tad bit wider.

"This is a little... thank you gift, if you will. For taking care of my heart- both literally and figuratively," he winked, extending the bouquet.

Elias just blinked at the roses, then at the other. His brain was processing the sight. After a moment, he rolled his eyes helplessly, looking up at the lawyer with mild amusement and exasperation, "How long did it take you to think up this cheesy line? On second thought, do not answer that."

Raphael flashed his signature smirk, stepping closer to the other man, looking him up and down. He then leaned against the other's office door frame, arms crossed over his chest. "I have another." His tone was almost... excited, as he kneeled down dramatically and cupped his hands around his own chest. "A human heart costs a million dollars, yet I gave you mine for free. You ungrateful ass bitch."

Elias, in turn, just sighed. "Really? Organ trafficking flirting?" He couldn't help but play along, despite the recent stressful events. It was... a nice change, somehow. "But if my memory serves me correctly, you had a thrombus extraction a few days ago. I'd say you're giving me damaged goods."

Raphael laughed at the other's reply. Trust Elias to always have a smartass response. "Ah, I suppose that's true. Damaged goods, hm?" He made an exaggerated show of scratching his chin and thinking thoughtfully, "I suppose that will explain my terrible taste in men."

Elias rolled his eyes, replying in a similar, jokingly flirty voice, "Really? I think you have amazing taste, though. In men, at least. The choice of flowers is... debatable."

Raphael's smirk grew. He shifted closer to Elias, their faces pretty close. "Hm? I think the roses are perfectly fitting for your lovely self. Gorgeous, elegant, graceful-" He smirked, his index finger trailing down the other's cheek, to the hollow of his throat. "-And thorny, of course." He had half a mind to add "without a t" but decided not to, because he had a feeling that if he did, the blonde would smack him with the papers.

Elias leaned back a bit but didn't bother to move away. Instead, he smirked right back, raising an eyebrow at the other. "Oh please. Just because I called you a bastard once doesn't mean I'm thorny."

Raphael chuckled, "If I recall correctly, the phrase was 'smug, egotistical, bastard, pain in the ass.' Though I'm not entirely opposed to being the reason for the literal pain in your ass-"

It took Elias a moment to register the innuendo, but when he did, a light blush spread across his cheeks. He almost choked on his spit, then let out a small laugh, slapping his forehead, running his hands down his face in embarrassment. "...God, I hate you. So much." He said fondly, "You're so embarrassing."

Raphael stood up straight, a cocky grin on his face. He took a steps toward the doctor before kneeling down right beside Elias's feet. His smirk was still in place as he gently picked up the other's bandaged ankle. "You don't mean that," he drawled, his voice dropping an octave. Raphael lifted Elias's ankle, his fingers running over it with the utmost gentleness and care... and also possessiveness. Then, the look in his eyes changed to something more... protective, as he raised an eyebrow.

"Your ankle. I told you to get an X-ray. Did you?"
