Chapter 24 - Straight out of a romance novel

Louis takes a deep breath, gripping the steering wheel, as he drove in the parking lot of the luxury apartment complex. He glanced at the time in his watch.

6:52. Almost time for Elias to get back from work.

He ran a hand through his hair in frustration. He can't afford to reminiscence right now. That's for the nights he has to stay awake, staring at the sky with a glass of whiskey in his hand, wondering what if. Not right now, when he had to act. And he had to get it right- he couldn't afford to get left again. He has to make the other obsess over him as much as he does, so he can't even think of just leaving him again.

A bouquet of red roses sat on the passenger's seat, along with wine. As he waited, he could practically feel his mind going in a spiral again. And finally, the one memory he was trying so hard to forget, the one memory he won't be able to feel less intensely about no matter how many times his therapist tries to 'systematically desensitise' him, threatens to surface.

Time healed the other wounds, but this one was like a gaping hole through his heart, like a parasite only death can liberate him from.

He shook his head, clearing his mind of those thoughts. He had more pressing matters to worry about.

Louis takes one last look in the rearview mirror, making sure he looks good. Even though he knows he does. His gaze was sharp and cold, but he easily replaces it with a charming and kind smile. He turns off the car, picking up the flowers and wine before finally getting out the car. He locks the car, and starts walking towards the apartment building.

"...Oh, by the way, I want Italian tommorow," Raphael chuckled, sitting crosslegged on his bed. A phone was pressed to his ear as he smiled cheekily. Oh, how he wished he could see the other's expression right now. He bet it'd be all red with anger and irritation, his lips pulled up in those cute pouts of his.

"The heck do you think it is, a restaurant?" Elias replied, rolling his eyes. He had his airpods in, talking as he walked in the elevator of his building, pressing his floor button. His hands held a bag of groceries and an iced latte, as he took small sips in between. Nothing says relaxation after a long day like sipping an overpriced drink with more sugar than milk.

Raphael chuckled as he heard the other man's response. "Of course not, silly. I know this is a hospital, and not a restaurant." He was enjoying hearing the annoyed tone in the doctor's voice a bit too much, admittedly as he acted oblivious.

"Besides, I never said anything about a restaurant" he continued in a innocent tone. There was a pause in his speech, before he leaned a little closer to the phone, "I just said that I wanted Italian~"

Elias resisted the urge to smack this infuriating man through the phone. 'This little shit-' He grumbled, "I've never had a patient more demanding or entitled than you."

"Oh come on, angel. Aren't you my doctor?" He smirked. "Doctors are supposed to ensure the recovery of their patients. And doctors are supposed to listen to their patients and obey them, angel."

"...I can't express in words how much irritating and wrong that logic is," he huffed as the elevator doors opened at his floor. His gaze was on his feet, as picked up the grocery bag he'd set down. "You're supposed to listen to me!"

Raphael just shrugged off the blonde's words. If he was entirely honest...he didn't really want Italian. He just called to hear the other's voice, but of course, he can't tell him that.

"Details, details. And since we're already on the topic of obeying-" he smirked as he spoke the next line, already anticipating the blonde's response. "You already obey me so much, angel. You're just a step away from being my maid~ Why don't you wear an appropriate outfit from tomorrow too-"

As the other hand anticipated, Elias was silent for a moment, by the sheer audacity of the other.

He opened his mouth to reply, but closed it a few times. Speechless. He was so appalled his entire focus went on the call, no even glancing in front of him as he walked to his door, entering the passcode from muscle memory. This man was officially the most shameless, most irritating, most infuriating man on earth. Even if he was really handsome, but we're not talking about that right now.

"You better be thankful you're not in front of me right now or I would've strangled you with the damn cannula-"

His words were cut off as he felt a tap on his shoulder. Elias was slightly startled, and almost dropped the bag in surprise as he turned. When, however, he saw who it was, he actually dropped the bag.

Louis. With a large bouquet of red roses in his hand, looking straight out of a romance novel.
