Akira Saito worked in what people called a "black company." She hated the company more than her hate of rich people, albeit she was just jealous that they had it easy and she was struggling to even pay rent, not too mention food. It was a tough job, but the worst part was that they didn't pay for overtime or when she had to work on weekends. Most of her friends said that she should quit, but she couldn't because she was just 15 and this was the only company that accepted her. So, for that, at least, she was thankful. But right now was not the time for thinking. Saying that the last time she was late, they had threatened to fire her, and this time she was sure they'd follow through on the threat.
Akira was running as fast as she could, which isn't very fast when you have a fever of 102Ā°F. She was already late and knew she was going to get an earful from her manager. She stopped at a red light and finally took a breather; that's when her vision started to go black. She shook her head violently. "Come on, me, you can't faint now, or you'll get fired!" She was talking to herself, and the people around her looked at her like she was crazy. Then the light finally turned green, and she took off running, but she forgot to check both ways and got hit by a car that was turning.
Akira didn't know how long it had been since she had fallen unconscious, but there were people yelling to call an ambulance. Akira was going to go to sleep, but then remembered that she was late for work and had to get going. "Hey, you guys, wait, she's getting up!" someone shouted as she started to get up. "You should wait for the ambulance; you took a nasty fall," that was a different person, but closer this time. "I'm fine," she waved them off, took out her business card, put it on the car windshield, and then started running again. As she moved through the crowd, she saw people filming her.
"Akira, this is the third time this week you came in late. Do you know what this means?" This was Akira's manager; she hated him because he just sat back and watched while the rest of them worked their asses off. "No, sir, I don't," of course, she knew, but she'd never miss a chance to infuriate him. "Well, you should, because not only did you come in late, but you also have blood dripping down your forehead, your clothes are torn, and there's blood on them. This is the last straw; you're FIRED!"
Akira didn't know how to react, so she decided to start with the easier things. "I have blood on my forehead and clothes?" It was a genuine question, but seemed to make the manager even more mad. "Yes, you do, and the fact you even showed your face here looking the way you look is crazy." Akira chose to ignore him and went looking for a mirror. "Akira, come over here; I have a mirror." That was Akira's senpai at work. "What happened to you? You're a mess, like more than usual." Akira staggered towards her senpai. "I got hit by a car while crossing the street; it's not as bad as it seems." Her senpai handed her a hand mirror, then started to dial 911. "Hey, stop that costs money; I'll just go after work today." Her senpai looked at her pleadingly, but Akira was firm in her decision. Akira moved towards her desk and started working.
Akira was on her lunch break when a person entered the office. Akira had never met her, but she looked to be the same age but a lot more wealth. The girl had long black hair with green eyes; she also wore a suit that looked expensive. That's when the girl spotted Akira and started walking towards her. "You there, your name is Akira Saito, right?" Akira nodded because her mouth was stuffed with food. "You got hit by my car this morning; I came to apologize." Akira swallowed her food. "Other than my business card, how did you know it was me? After all, my business card carries no personal information." The girl smiled slightly. "Because in this room right now, you're the only one who looks like they just got hit by a car." Akira nodded. "I didn't need an apology, and I'll pay for any damages to your car." The girl sighed, looking annoyed. "I came to apologize and check in, and since you clearly haven't gotten help yet, I'm here to take you to the hospital." Akira shuffled in her seat. "It's fine; I'm fine, and I know it's kinda late, but what's your name?" Akira asked. She heard gasps and whispers at her question, and her junior whispered in her ear, "Akira, that's Luna Ito, you know, the youngest billionaire ever." Akira was shocked, to say the least. "Wait, I should've known this; I think she was on the news recently," Akira said. The girl, no, Luna, started laughing. "I was on the news recently. Now, grab your things; we're heading out."
After that, things passed in a blur. All Akira could remember was that she had convinced Luna that all she needed was some bandages and rest. "Is this where you live?" Luna asked her she looked disgusted. Akira stepped out of the car. "Yes, it is, and when your parents are dead and you work for minimum wage, this is what you get." As she walked towards her apartment, she noticed that Luna was following her, but decided not to say anything. She unlocked the door and entered her room, that's when she was reminded by how much of a mess it was. "Sorry, my apartment is a mess; I just never really had time to clean it." Luna looked surprised but then nodded. "It's fine, but where's your first aid kit?" Akira pointed towards a cabinet, then left to change her clothes.
"Akira, it's not here, so where could it be?" Akira pulled her sweatshirt on and stepped out of her room. "That means I don't have any first aid here." Luna looked really annoyed at what she had said so she grabbed Akira's arm, and dragged her to the door and opening it only to see Akira's landlord standing right there. "Hello there, miss. I'm the landlord, and I'm here to talk to Akira."
"Landlord, I'm right here," Akira said. The landlord turned towards her and gave her an envelope. "Your rent is three months behind, and there seems to be no chance that you'll ever pay, so you're getting evicted."
Akira's brain stopped working; it couldn't process the words that the landlady had just said. "Please, I'll pay somehow." The landlady shook her head. "No, I'm sorry; I already decided." Akira walked towards the stairs and tripped, but luckily, Luna reacted quickly enough to catch her. But it seemed that Akira was unconscious.
