Have you ever seen a nature documentary where the insect gets eaten by the lizard, the lizard gets eaten by a snake, the snake gets eaten by a fox, the fox ends up as nutrition for a skilled hunter?
The food pyramid, the law of the jungle, the way of life. The bigger fist always rules.
Coming from a peaceful advanced country where you don't think about these problems, you don't ever compare yourself to these situations. Everything is bought in stores, no primal sense of survival, no hunting and gathering. These things are common place, no one hunts but for sport. Foods are processed by factories & restaurants and can be delivered to your door in 15 to 30 minutes.
Never in my life would i expect to find myself in the situation i'm currently in but before we get into my current predicament let me start from the beginning of my day.
Today was just supposed to be like any normal day. I'm a normal 17 year old high school student named Lucius Gray half way through completing my final year. I got up after having a weird dream, went to the bathroom and stared at myself in the mirror to check my appearance. My black medium length hair looked like a birds nest and my grey green eyes had bags under them from my lack of sleep because of my excitement for today. I sighed at the sight then proceeded to do my morning routine, breakfast and got in my car to head to school.
We are having our college visits today. i have been waiting my whole life for this moment. All those years of busting my ass at part-time jobs, late night study session, community service hours, doing anything to make my accomplishments and hard work above average. Filling 50+ college scholarship applications just to take some burdens off my parents shoulders. It was almost time to get out of my parents house, start living on my own and take my first steps into adulthood. Don't get me wrong i love my family to death but i don't think anyone has never not been excited about living on their own and especially having money of their own! Especially when your parents proceeded to give you 3 younger siblings in a medium income home. Being the oldest i have to lead by example so my twin siblings both girls are 4 years younger than me & the youngest, my baby brother being 5 years old. I have a good older brother and role model they can look up to.
After a 30 minute drive i got to the school parking lot at 9:15 am, i parked in my assigned parking spot and headed into school.
We are meeting in the auditorium at 9:30 to get into our assigned groups to get onto the buses that are taking us to our college of choice. After 30 minutes of name calling all the teachers got their groups together, then we headed headed out to the buses. There where over 300 students in my year and 10 buses. The buses hold up to 50 people but there where around 25 in my group, most with situations similar to mine because the college we're headed to is a public college. Most people from my school are from better off families and have either decided to go to more expensive colleges. Which was a luxury i couldn't afford but a degree is a degree right? Others that will join the workforce right after graduation basically got a free day off from school so it didn't matter what campus they where going to.
When we got onto the bus the teacher, Miss Alice Evermore who's in charge, stood at the front and made another roll call to double check if she had all of her students aboard. This teacher is the one who helped me with my scholarship applications and found opportunities for me in different fields of jobs just to find what i'd be comfortable doing the rest of my life. She's like an older sister to me and has a huge impact on my life. She had a similar situation to mine growing up but had way more siblings, still persevered through and has my respect. We also have a lot in common because like me when focused on the future and constantly busy, didn't have time to form close friends and relations with classmates. She's around 5'5 with grey hair, light magenta colored eyes and a body that makes it hard for boys my age to not fall into a daze while looking at her. I once tried to subtly get her age from her but she quickly caught on and all i ended up with was a bump on the head and her saying "you're too young to be trying to get a woman to tell you her age" whatever that means, she knows i hold a deep affection for her so while she keeps a playful attitude with me she keeps a certain distance and maintains student & teacher relationship but if i had to guess she doesn't look older than 23.
After taking roll call the bus set off to its destination Public College E. The drive there will take about an hour and hour back if traffic isn't bad. Should be back at the high school around 4-5 pm then i'll have to head to my job at 6. Hopefully this day doesn't go by so soon.
*sigh*
"i really don't want to go to work but i have to it's a necessity" i mumbled under my breath while taking out my headphones & looking out the window.
*yawn*
My eyes felt heavy from my lack of sleep the night before because of my excitement, now that the has days come my exhaustion is catching up to me.
'little nap won't hurt before getting there' i thought as i leaned my head against the window and dozed off.
*skreechh*
*bang*
*boom*
