It's been two days since that eeri shaman's utterance. I have never been so scared in my life when she pointed at me. I am quite sure she was talking about Elizabeth.
Looking around my empty bedroom, I touched her things. They have been exactly as she left them. Nothing has changed. The only thing that kept me alive for these past two and half years had been the memories. Only the memories.
Lying down on our bed ,I closed my eyes , hoping to catch a bit of sleep only to hear a knock at my door.
"Alpha, I need to have a word with you." I heard Conor's voice.
I reset my face so he would not know he had just disturbed me . After all, it was not his fault. It was all my doing.
"Come in," I called .
Conor came in , a worried expression on his face.
"Alpha, what are your plans? You do know Luna is the lost princess right?"
"Yeah, I know. I am still wondering what we are to do. My greatest fear is thinking what the King will do when he finds out that I had rejected his daughter." I said wearily.
I was not afraid for myself. I don't mind taking all the punishment. What I fear is what the King can do to my pack and its people.
Especially for my brother Matt. He did not deserve a punishment meant for only me, this pack was also his birthright . How can I allow it all to go to ruin due to my carelessness?
"Enh, if you will hear me out, I have a suggestion." Conor coughed and said.
"Okay, I am all ears."
"Seb, let's find Luna, before the King's men get to her. If the king finds out that Luna was rejected by you, I don't know what he will do to us, to our pack …." Conor trailed off.
"I have been thinking exactly the same thing. But Elizabeth, so you think she will listen to me. I mean I have abandoned her for years. I don't even know where she is. Will she even want to see my face? She may not be at her aunt's place , infact, she may have gotten married again "
"Yes, I know all that and I also know you two loved each other greatly so I doubt if Luna would have gotten into another relationship so soon. I have seen you suffering. Why did you even do this to yourself? Why?" Conor looked at me, angry all over at me for my rejection of Elizabeth.
After the rejection, Conor and Matt had stopped speaking to me for the longest time. For a time, I was afraid I had lost the only two people that mattered to me : my brother and bestfriend.
Thankfully, after a few weeks, I had explained to them why I had made that difficult decision . Although they had seen reason with me but they had been unconvinced and vowed never to accept any other Luna , except Elizabeth.
Now the moon goddess was playing another cruel joke on me. I must go look for my rejected mate.
It's not as if I am unhappy about finding Elizabeth again. I am so happy. But the fear remains:how do I face Elizabeth? What do I tell her? Will she think I came back for her only because I found out she was a princess?
"Okay Alpha, let me know what you think about the plan. And for the record, I think the royal family have something to hide. Princess Sharon was definitely behaving funny when I talked to her." Conor said and finally left me to my thoughts.
Another thing that has been bothering me since we came back from the meeting with the king was why had they abandoned Elizabeth in the human world. What offense had she committed and no one ever knew that there was another princess, except Sharon.
I need to get out of here, the walls of the bedroom are suffocating me. The thought of what I had done, the mistake I had made with Elizabeth was just too much.
My wolf since the mention of Elizabeth has been restless. It had missed our mate and had completely stopped talking to me for a long time. I had to beg, plead and cajole before it talked again.
I noticed it was not active and only talked back when asked a question.
For my once opinionated wolf, it has been a miracle.
"If you miss this chance of getting our mate back due your false sense of pride, I can promise you right here that I will never talk to you ever. Get to it, go find our mate. Proud man!" Kyle, my wolf ordered in a royal tone.
I grimaced at his tone of voice. Sometimes I wondered who was controlling who. All other alphas I knew had docile wolves who do their bidding without complaints ,not me. The moon goddess had to as always, give me something special. An alpha wolf for goodness sake!
" I can hear you, stop complaining and move your ass! Go look for our mate then I will be as docile as you want me to be." Kyle ordered again.
I just threw off my hands in the air
"I give up!" I muttered .
And before I knew it, Kyle completely took over , shifting and rampaging around. In a twinkle of an eye, we were in the forest and Kyle continued howling non stop.
In a flash, all soldiers of the pack were in the forest in their wolf form.
"Alpha, what's the problem? Is there an attack?" Conor asked in the mind link.
I didn't even know what to say. Kyle continued howling, becoming uncontrollable.
"Seb, what is the problem?" Matt's gray wolf asked worriedly. His wolf was as big as mine since he was also an alpha.
I kept quiet and mustered up courage to subdue Kyle and shifted back to my human form.
When the others saw I had shifted back, they also shifted back to their human forms, surrounding me.
"Sorry for the false alarm guys. Kyle was in a bad mood. Let's go back before the ladies become worried."
Looking at my soldiers' faces, I felt remorseful. I was sorry I was not a good leader. I think I have disappointed them.
We all shifted back to our wolves and raced back to the pack house. As we raced side by side, I rebuked Kyle for the stunt he just pulled.
"If you don't bring back our mate, I will completely take over. You know I can do that right?" Kyle asked with a quirk.
"Don't you dare and I promise, I will bring back Elizabeth. Just give me some time, okay." I made a pact with Kyle and soon, we were at the pack house.
After refreshing, I laid down to sleep and all I saw in my dream was Elizabeth's red hair and violet eyes. She was unhappy with tears in her eyes….
