Chapter 90 - Chapter 90: The Collapse of the Hall Plan

Grant and Skye walked calmly through Ian Quinn's luxurious mansion, their eyes alert for any suspicious movements. The party was in full swing, with richly dressed guests chatting and laughing amongst themselves, completely unaware of what was actually happening around them.

— "Okay, we're in," Ward whispered to Skye, who stood beside him, looking around curiously but also focused. "Now, we need to locate the mansion's defense system and disable it."

Skye nodded, adjusting her disguised earpiece and answering casually to avoid arousing suspicion. They knew time was against them, and they needed to act quickly to allow Coulson and the rest of the team to sneak into the mansion.

As the two moved through the ballroom, Ward maintained the posture of Skye's bodyguard, appearing to be her escort while she used her hacking skills to identify the security terminals. They passed several closed doors until Skye finally spotted an inconspicuous room that appeared to be the security control room.

— "Over there," she said, pointing discreetly. "That's where they're probably controlling the mansion's entire security system."

Ward scanned the hallway, making sure there were no guards nearby, and nodded to Skye.

— "Okay, you know what to do. I'll handle the door."

With that, Skye entered the security room, her nimble fingers working quickly on the terminal. Within minutes, she had disabled the mansion's defenses.

— "Defenses disabled," she said over the comm to Coulson. "You're free to enter."

Coulson, who had been waiting in the shadows outside the mansion, smiled at the confirmation.

— "Good work, Skye. We're on our way."

He, Fitz, and Simmons quickly entered the property, using the service entrances to enter the mansion without being seen. With the mansion's security compromised, the way was clear for the team to reach the most critical point of the mission: the place where Dr. Franklin Hall was being held.

In the heart of the mansion, in an impressive and technologically advanced laboratory, Coulson and the others found Hall, who was working on a gigantic gravitonium field, a substance that had the power to manipulate gravity in unimaginable ways. The scene before their eyes was surreal. Hall, far from being a prisoner, seemed to be completely immersed in his work, seemingly free to do whatever he wanted.

Coulson and the others cautiously entered the laboratory, with Fitz and Simmons right behind him. When Hall looked up and saw Coulson, Fitz and Simmons, he smiled almost condescendingly.

"Ah, Coulson. Have you come to try to stop me?"

Coulson narrowed his eyes.

"Dr. Hall, what are you doing here? We expected you to be forced to work for Quinn, but from what I see... this seems to be exactly what you want."

Hall gave a dark laugh.

— "Quinn is a fool. He believes he can use gravitonium to manipulate the world, but he doesn't understand the true power he's dealing with. I've known him for years, since college, where we first made the discovery. Now, I have complete control over this technology... and the only way to keep it from falling into the wrong hands is to destroy it. If I destroy myself in the process, so be it."

Simmons, shocked, took a step forward.

— "Dr. Hall, you can't do that. If you cause a gravitonium explosion, not only will you destroy the mansion, but thousands of people around the island could die." Fitz nodded in concern.

— "That's suicide! The chain reaction you're creating could be catastrophic!" Hall shook his head, looking at them with a determined expression.

— "It's the only way. If Quinn gains control of gravitonium, the entire world will be in danger. I can't allow that to happen." Coulson, always calm and collected, tried one last approach.

— "Franklin, this is not what you want. You can stop now. Together, we can find another solution."

Hall looked at Coulson with sadness in his eyes.

— "Coulson, I have already found my solution. The only way to stop Quinn... is to sacrifice myself."

Before Coulson could stop him, Hall moved toward the gravitonium core. The field around the device began to glow brightly and unstable.

Coulson knew he had no other choice. If he allowed Hall to finish what he was doing, disaster would be imminent. With a resolute look, he made a difficult decision.

— "Dr. Hall... I am so sorry."

Coulson pressed a button on the panel next to it, opening the gravitonium chamber. Hall was pulled inside, his body quickly consumed by the substance, which glowed brightly before stabilizing.

Once Hall was gone, the gravitonium field ceased its fluctuations.

The office fell silent. Fitz and Simmons were in shock, their expressions grim as they stared at the spot where Hall had disappeared.

— "He did it... to prevent disaster," Simmons murmured, his eyes brimming with tears.

Coulson shook his head, understanding the sacrifice Hall had made.

— "Now the gravitonium is safe... for now."

Meanwhile, on the other side of the mansion, Ward and Skye were dealing with another problem. As soon as the defenses were down, Quinn's guards began to mobilize. Skye and Ward, working in sync, engaged the security guards in direct combat.

Ward, always focused and precise, took down the guards with quick, efficient movements, while Skye, with her new combat training, was handling the situation better than she ever imagined. She dodged a blow, surprising one of the guards with a well-placed punch, knocking him to the ground.

— "I think I'm getting good at this," she said, panting, but with a smile on her face.

Ward, after taking down another guard, smiled back.

"Not bad for a hacker who didn't know how to fight a few months ago."

However, amidst the chaos of the fight, Ian Quinn managed to escape through the back exit of the mansion, disappearing before they could stop him.

"Quinn escaped," Ward reported over the comm. "But we made sure the gravitonium is safe."

Coulson answered on the other end.

"Understood. Meet us at the extraction point."

Back at the shuttle, the team was gathered, exhausted, but relieved that they had avoided a major disaster. May, who had watched most of the mission from behind the scenes, finally approached Coulson, her expression serious.

— "Coulson," she began, "I can't stand by and watch the team deal with this kind of situation any longer. I'm going back to the battlefield. I've been in administration long enough. I can't keep ignoring the action."

Coulson looked at her, knowing this decision was significant.

— "Are you sure, May? After what happened in Bahrain..."

She nodded firmly.

— "Yes. I'm ready for this. This team needs someone with combat experience, and I don't want to sit around any longer. I'm back in the game."

Coulson smiled, relieved and satisfied.

— "Welcome back to the field, Agent May. We'll need you on the next missions."

And so, with the gravitonium in S.H.I.E.L.D.'s custody and a new phase beginning for May, the team prepared for the challenges that lay ahead.
