Chapter 74 - Chapter 74: Evacuation Under Fire

Chaos was breaking out outside the Inca temple. Explosions were still going off in the distance and the sound of gunfire echoed across the mountainous landscape. Ward, May and the rest of the team knew the situation was escalating quickly. With the backpack containing the artifact now safe, Ward took the lead in protecting the team.

"Everyone move!" Ward ordered, his voice firm and clear. "We need to get to the bus and make sure the artifact is safe!"

Skye, Fitz and Simmons followed with Ward, who kept his weapon ready and his eyes peeled for any sign of threat. The surrounding area was in turmoil, with armed men and Peruvian police vehicles moving around.

Ward led the group out of the temple, using the backpack with the artifact as a priority. The situation was critical and they needed to get out of there as quickly as possible. The team was split into two groups: Ward and the scientists were moving quickly toward the shuttle, while Coulson, Camila, and their soldiers were fighting off the rebels to secure the evacuation.

"May!" Ward shouted into the radio as he saw May's car approaching. "We're on our way, we need cover!"

May, at the wheel of the shuttle, was focused on making sure the vehicle was in position. The shuttle was a fortress on wheels, but the situation was developing quickly and needed to be controlled. She turned the wheel and made a quick maneuver to make room for the team.

Ward and the team reached the shuttle, with Ward holding position while Fitz and Simmons quickly climbed in. Skye was the last to board, with Ward checking to make sure everyone was on board.

"All aboard!" Ward announced, as he fired a few shots to ward off the approaching rebels. "Let's go!"

May sped the shuttle out of the danger zone, while Coulson and Commander Reyes were in a nearby Peruvian police car. Camila was at the wheel, and the soldiers were in position to deal with the rebels.

"We're almost there," Camila said over the radio, her voice tense. "We need more cover. Rebel forces are closing in fast."

Coulson, holding a gun and looking serious, replied, "Understood. Keep formation and use comms to coordinate with the bus. We need to ensure the safe evacuation of everyone."

Outside the bus, the exchange of gunfire continued. The rebels were advancing and the situation was becoming increasingly chaotic. Ward and his colleagues were moving quickly to secure the vehicle.

"Cover!" Ward shouted, as he fired at an approaching group of rebels. "We need more cover so the bus can leave!"

The Peruvian police responded with effective covering fire, keeping the rebels at bay and giving the bus time to move away from the danger area. Ward moved in coordination with May, ensuring that the area around the bus was clear.

Finally, the bus was moving, heading out of the conflict area. The sound of gunfire and explosions began to fade as they drove away from the temple and the battle. Inside the bus, May was in control of the situation, adjusting the controls and preparing the vehicle for evacuation.

"We're clear and moving," May reported over the radio. "Everyone aboard?"

"Everyone aboard," Ward confirmed, his voice full of relief and tiredness. "We're ready to go."

Skye, Fitz, and Simmons sat in the seats, still panting and looking alert. Fitz was reviewing the data on the artifact, while Simmons tried to calm Skye.

"How are we doing, May?" Ward asked, as he checked the security of the backpack with the artifact.

"We're safe for now," May replied, glancing in the rearview mirror to make sure they weren't being followed. "But we can't get complacent. We need to get out of range of these rebels and reassess the situation."

Coulson's team, now reunited with the bus, was on its way to a safe location. Coulson and Camila were discussing strategy as the bus pulled away from the combat area.

"Good job, everyone," Coulson said over the radio. "We need to make sure the artifact is taken to a safe location and that the situation is under control." Camila, maintaining communication with her troops, was coordinating the movement of Peruvian police vehicles to ensure everyone's safety.

"We'll make sure the perimeter is secure and that there are no further threats," Camila said. "The temple may be lost, but we've made sure the artifact is protected."

Ward, sitting on the bus bench and looking out the window, was exhausted but relieved. The team had faced a great challenge and managed to secure the artifact. With the situation now under control, they were on their way to a safe location to reassess and plan their next steps.

The battle was far from over, but the evacuation was a success. The artifact was safe and the team was united, ready to face any challenge that came their way.
