Chapter 65 - After Being Betrayed, I Rose to Prominence part 1: Why not sample it yourself

In a dream spanning four decades, as Karise's soul returned to that ethereal void, she found herself free of any regrets in a world steeped in turmoil and carnage.

"Welcome back, Master."

"Where shall we journey to next?" Karise inquired, delicately placing the fragments of her soul into the mystical spring, within which slumbered the ghostly silhouette of a mysterious man.

"Very well, let us embark on a standard quest. This time, you shall embody a betrayed and exploited woman, while your conquest shall be the most influential secondary male in that realm. Oh, by the way, Master, do you look splendid in a cheongsam dress? The setting is a nation amidst the throes of war."

From the vintage phonograph, the melodic strains of a viola filled the air with a haunting melody.

Beneath the warm luminescence of yellow light, a man clad in a grey flowing robe sat upon a solitary couch, diligently carving a snow pear.

His hands were a sight to behold—broad palms and slender fingers deftly wielding a sharply gleaming silver-handled knife, as if imbued with a life of its own. In mere moments, a crystalline pear blossom graced the tip of the blade, elegantly placed in an ornate dish nearby.

While this scene exuded elegance, Seraphelle, who had observed in silence for quite some time, now felt an unprecedented sense of oppression.

Her gaze lowered, tendrils of hair framing her exquisite visage, imbuing it with a subtle pallor.

She pondered the arduous nature of love; having poured all her emotions into one individual, she was met with callous abandonment and humiliation in return.

The man she had loved for years had callously sacrificed her to save the woman of his dreams.

And the man before her, bespectacled and exuding sophistication as he delicately carved pear blossoms, stood as the pinnacle of this fierce and competitive world.

Seraphelle was uncertain of the trials that awaited her. If she were to reveal her true identity as the wife of the military commander, may he grant Faolan some dignity and allow her safe return?

If not, her only recourse would be to end her life within the confines of Spring Mountain Pavilion, in a bid to affirm her innocence.

As Seraphelle resolved this within her heart, the man seated across from her finally laid down his knife and lifted his gaze to meet hers.

Upon speaking, his voice resonated deeper and more magnetic than the strains of a cello—rich, powerful, and yet tender.

"Who are you, truly? And where is Lily?"

Seraphelle pressed her lips together, a flicker of fear causing her to instinctively swallow. Yet, notwithstanding her trepidation, she knew she had to respond to his inquiry.

Taking a shallow breath, Seraphelle slowly raised her head.

Through the dim light, her tear-glistened eyes locked onto his.

"I am—"

Only two words escaped her lips before she abruptly paused, gazing at the handsome, aloof countenance of the man before her, and erupted into laughter.

"Who am I, indeed? Does it truly matter?"

In that ephemeral moment, her expression shifted.

Not just her countenance; the soul housed within this vessel was now supplanted by Karise, freshly embarking on this quest.

The intricate details of this scenario flooded Karise's mind in an instant.

The former host, named Seraphelle, hailed from wealth and prominence, a true socialite. She had harboured affections for Faolan, the son of the military commander to whom she was betrothed, since childhood.

Yet Faolan did not reciprocate her feelings; his heart belonged to a girl who had once saved him.

Unbeknownst to him, that girl was Seraphelle, who had lost all recollection of their shared past.

Pressured by family obligations, Faolan eventually wed Seraphelle.

However, after two years of marriage, they had not consummated their union.

Seraphelle had naively believed that time would sway Faolan's heart, only for a captivating figure named Lily to disrupt their lives.

To complicate matters, Faolan mistakenly believed Lily to be the girl who had rescued him.

What followed was a melodramatic sequence of events.

Faolan inflicted various torments upon Seraphelle to compel her towards divorce, yet her unwavering love for him prevented her from parting ways.

The emotional duress escalated into physical suffering, as Seraphelle endured relentless agony day and night. Subsequently, when she fell pregnant, fearing Faolan would demand an abortion, she covertly gave birth and faced countless tribulations to protect her child, only to have Faolan take the child away in the end.

Bereft of her child and stripped of all she held dear, Seraphelle ventured into Broadway.

The secondary male, the world's antagonist Lupercus, who had previously harboured a hint of affection for her, swiftly elevated her to become the most celebrated star in Golden Beach City within a mere six months.

Upon her glorious return, the scoundrel resurfaced, seeking to assert his dominance once more.

Although her sole desire was to reunite with her child, Seraphelle found herself still harbouring feelings for the scoundrel.

And as the scoundrel tormented the heroine, he unwittingly found himself entwined in love with her.

The climax of this narrative ensued with Seraphelle nearly meeting her demise at the hands of the scoundrel, unveiling the truth of the past. While expected to depart Golden Beach with Lupercus, Seraphelle opted for forgiveness and embarked on a life of contentment with the scoundrel.

Reflecting on this suffocating plotline, Karise was consumed with disgust.

The heroine's abject subservience, enduring countless betrayals at the hands of the scoundrel while treating him as her first love, left Karise repulsed.

However, with her entrance, such an exasperating and clichéd storyline would never come to fruition.

"Master, your mission in this quest is to evoke Lupercus, the tyrant of Golden Beach, into desiring to marry you. Due to the unique nature of this quest, an additional subplot involves invoking regrets within Faolan. Completing this side quest promises rewards as well! Furthermore, your extraordinary talents lie in song and dance; at will, you could effortlessly ascend to superstar status in this era.

Additionally, owing to the former host's intense emotions, her sentiments may obstruct your progress, particularly in the initial phases.

That concludes my briefing. May you swiftly rise to prominence and glory in Golden Beach. I shall now sign off."

Upon hearing the system's directives, Karise smiled, for from this moment forth, she would be known as Seraphelle.

The collar of the cheongsam dress felt constricting; Seraphelle reached to unbutton a jewelled fastening.

As she adjusted the garment, she gracefully approached Lupercus, the self-proclaimed emperor of Golden Beach, and, with a flourish, perched herself upon his lap.

"Master, is Lily truly that remarkable? Does the young commander hold her in favour, as do you?"

As per the preceding narrative, Lily was the prime star of Broadway. After recognizing the young commander, she sought to extricate herself from the world of Broadway.

As the owner of Broadway, Lupercus could scarcely afford to relinquish such a profitable asset easily.

Yet, mindful that Faolan was the son of the warlord stationed in Golden Beach, he reluctantly extended the young commander the courtesy of retrieving her.

Presently engrossed in a burgeoning romance with Lily, Faolan could scarcely concede without resistance. After contemplation, he unexpectedly consigned his legal wife to Lupercus's Spring Mountain Pavilion.

In the original tale, once Seraphelle disclosed her true status as the commander's wife, Lupercus dismissed it as baseless and promptly returned her.

Yet, in this iteration...

"Fourth Master, the hour grows late, and this pear will soon lose its freshness if left uneaten."

As Seraphelle spoke, she reached out to pluck a pear blossom from the nearby dish and brought it to her lips, taking a bite.

Surveying Seraphelle relishing the blossom, Lupercus furrowed his brow slightly; his pear blossoms were not meant for just anybody, nor was his lap a seat for any woman.

However, observing her savour the succulent pear, his hand unconsciously rested upon her slender waist.

"Does this pear please your palate?" he intoned.

With a moistened lip, Seraphelle encircled Lupercus's neck with an arm, bringing her damp lips close to his ear.

"Master, why not sample it yourself and find out?"
