Chapter 6 - Chapter 6

With the zero-death hunt successfully bringing down a Tyrannosaurus Rex, the Green Tribe was in an uproar. Even though they returned to the tribe late at night, the warriors were given a warm welcome, lifted into the air, and cheered on as they entered the tribe. Countless torches and bonfires were lit, signaling a grand celebration for the Green Tribe.

As a key contributor, Ji Mo Ling not only received verbal praise from the chief but also had the first choice of the spoils. In simple terms, she was not only honored with words but could also select material rewards first.

After thinking for a moment, Ji Mo Ling decided to take a piece of T-Rex leather, intending to make herself a set of clothes.

Upon hearing this, the chief happily agreed, allowing those warriors who wanted to rest to go home, while those who didn't could stay to witness the rare process of T-Rex disassembly, led by professionals.

Everyone was excited about such an event; no one wanted to miss it, eagerly waiting to watch.

Ji Mo Ling was now in excellent physical shape. From being woken up early to help injured comrades to hunting the T-Rex and bringing the prey back to the tribe, she felt no fatigue from the busy day and decided to stay and enjoy the excitement.

The person directing the disassembly of the T-Rex was a woman named Wang Ye. Although she looked delicate and gentle on the outside, her personality was quite the opposite, and she was very skilled at "dissection." All public game slaughtering and distribution were under her responsibility.

Wang Ye had a daughter named Wang Xin, the lively girl who had dragged Ji Mo Ling to dance with Chen Lan at the welcome party when Ji Mo Ling first arrived, and the two had gotten along quite well.

At that moment, Wang Xin had volunteered to personally carve out a good piece of leather for Ji Mo Ling, working hard under her mother's guidance, sweat glistening on her forehead.

"Wow! This T-Rex truly lives up to its name! Its skin isn't thick, but its toughness is exceptional." Wang Xin grumbled to herself, having cut away at the leather for quite a while with her bone knife, finally managing to remove the best piece from its back.

"Here. Wipe your sweat." Seeing Wang Xin in this state, Ji Mo Ling stepped forward and handed her a clean towel.

Wang Xin looked up, and upon seeing it was Ji Mo Ling, she accepted it without hesitation, wiping her forehead. "Ling, look at the leather I picked for you. Isn't it great?" she said, pointing to the ground with her knife, the blade still dripping with blood, her bright smile radiant.

Ji Mo Ling nodded. "Of course, what you choose is the best." The shine in Wang Xin's eyes struck a chord with Ji Mo Ling, and she had no hesitation in giving her affirmation. If she had put down the weapon and asked for praise first, she would have been tempted to ruffle her hair.

"Ha-ha! That's obvious. Tomorrow, I'll take you to see my Ninth Dad. He's the best clothing maker in our tribe, and he'll definitely make you the perfect armor. Now I need to get back to work!" Wang Xin patted Ji Mo Ling's shoulder, also promising to handle the leather's subsequent processing.

"That sounds great. I'll come find you in the afternoon. You keep busy," Ji Mo Ling said, initially planning to mess with it herself. But upon hearing about a professional, she decided to accept Wang Xin's kindness to avoid wasting the hard-earned materials.

Wang Xin nodded and turned back to her work.

With about twenty people, they worked until dawn before finally finishing the task of separating the T-Rex's skin, meat, entrails, and bones.

Thanks to everyone's help, the cleanup was quick. The inedible entrails were taken away to be buried far away, and the slaughter site was cleaned thoroughly.

Finally, seeing that no families were absent, the chief directly allocated the meat. Each woman, regardless of age, received fifty jin, adult beastmen thirty jin, juvenile beastmen over three years old received twenty jin, and those under three got five jin. Each person who participated in the hunt received an extra thirty jin.

The remaining meat, leather, and bones were stored in the tribe's warehouse for later use.

Breakfast that day was a large pot of T-Rex bone soup cooked in the tribe's square, with some brought home and others enjoyed together in the bustling square.

After a hearty meal, the beastmen, led by their captain, went off to do their respective tasks. The Green Tribe's food sources included hunting, gathering, planting, and breeding. However, the latter two were on a small scale and could not sustain the entire tribe's consumption, so the focus remained on the first two.

Ji Mo Ling had visited the tribe's planting and breeding grounds and understood why they couldn't form a large scale. It wasn't that the people here didn't know the knowledge; rather, it was due to species mutation and an unsuitable environment in this world for farming and breeding.

The yield from large-scale cultivation was far less than that of wild plants. Additionally, plants in this world grew to massive sizes, making it impossible to grow enough in a single plot. To feed the entire tribe through cultivation would require an enormous area. Once planted, other animals would come to steal food, and ordinary fences wouldn't suffice.

What they referred to as a planting area was merely a roughly six-acre wild rice tree forest (evolved from rice) surrounded by a stone wall built by the Green Tribe's beastmen. They would regularly come to weed, catch insects, and scare off birds and beasts.

As for breeding, it simply involved designating a piece of land within the tribe and building a fence from wood and stone to raise small animals that caused no significant damage, such as chickens and ducks.

Since hunting and gathering teams were responsible for a large portion of the tribe's food supply, their tasks were quite heavy. Except during winter and spring, they would generally go out every day. Even so, after a winter, the tribe would still face shortages of food and medicine, leading to a decrease in population.

The unexpected bounty from killing the T-Rex greatly alleviated this year's food pressure, contributing to the tribe's development and further boosting Ji Mo Ling's popularity among the Green Tribe, unlike when she first arrived, recognized only for her female status.

In the afternoon, Ji Mo Ling took the leather to find Wang Xin. Along the way, nearly everyone greeted her warmly, and several women who had only nodded at her before offered friendly smiles and chatted a bit. Ji Mo Ling realized this was their way of further accepting her.

Wang Ye, Wang Xin's mother, had married eleven husbands and had fifteen children, leaving Wang Xin as her only daughter. Thus, she held high expectations for her and was very strict in her upbringing.

In contrast to her strict mother, her fathers were gentle; aside from what Wang Ye forbade, the eleven beastmen fathers indulged their only daughter, willing to grant her anything she asked for.

When Wang Xin took Ji Mo Ling to her Ninth Dad to request help making the T-Rex leather armor, he readily agreed and, because it was his daughter bringing a friend, he would not charge any fees.

Before Ji Mo Ling could refuse, Wang Xin sweetly hugged her father's arm and shook it a few times, saying, "Then I'll thank you on behalf of Ling! You're the best, Ninth Dad!"

The praised beastman was so delighted that his eyes nearly squinted shut with happiness, assuring them he would handle everything, and in three days, Ji Mo Ling would be able to wear the best armor of the Green Tribe.

Once they were out, Ji Mo Ling couldn't help but ruffle Wang Xin's hair. "Xin, thanks to you this time! I appreciate it!" Hmm, her hair feels really nice.

"Hey! Ji Mo Ling, don't think you can just touch my head because you're tall. Seriously!" Wang Xin, who looked and was as tall as her mother, felt resentful about being half a head shorter than Ji Mo Ling despite being a year older, "If you really want to thank me, just share some of the fainting mushrooms!"

Ji Mo Ling had already given all the processed fainting mushroom powder to the T-Rex, but she still had some mushrooms left, though not many. "If you want them, that's no problem," Ji Mo Ling replied, not questioning Wang Xin's motives, "But do you want me to turn them into powder? You know the unprocessed mushrooms aren't very useful. The process can be a bit troublesome, though; it'll take two days. What do you think?"

"I want them! I want them!" Wang Xin exclaimed excitedly, jumping a couple of times and hanging onto Ji Mo Ling's shoulder. "Having mushroom powder would be the best! You're such a good person, Ling!"

Ji Mo Ling twitched her mouth at being called a good person. "If you don't get off soon, this good person is going to be choked out by you. You're so heavy."

"What?! I'm not heavy!" The weight issue was a sensitive topic for most women, and Wang Xin was no exception; she immediately flared up, "You're way heavier than me, you know~~~~~~"
