Chapter 8 - The Dark Cat

Soon, a long list of students was presented who were going to perform in the familiar ceremony. The number of students on the list reached thirty-seven.

As the academy's Head Instructor, Renfield, stepped onto the stage, his long dark hair flowed behind him, and he wore a matching black outfit. Strapped to his side was a dark red gun adorned with runes shaped like an eagle on both sides; he was the strongest among the instructors. He approached the stage and placed his hand on a large pillar of red, square-like rock, which was filled with ancient words written on every side. Thirteen palm prints encircled the Mystic pillar, one on each side.

"Though this isn't my first time, I must admit the ancient pillar is indeed massive; its height exceeds that of any vampire," Blake thought to himself.

"As you all have heard from the academy Head, we shall begin the familiar contract ceremony."

Suddenly, the thirteen elders of the thirteen pillars of the Royal Empire arrived at the ceremony altar. Each elder possessed a presence that rivaled the others, and they were known across other nations as the Thirteen Pillars of the Vampire Continent. They were all present to open the gateway to the familiar dimension, which required all thirteen to place their hands on the thirteen palm prints. This caused a blue glow to emanate from the pillar and opened a doorway portal leading to the familiar dimension. As the thirteen elders returned to their seats, they moved so quickly that it appeared as though they vanished.

The Head Instructor walked back up, holding a red crystal in his hand. He placed it in front of the gateway on a small pillar. "As you all know, forming a contract is one of the many challenges," he informed them.

"Once you place your blood on the crystal, the familiar that chooses you will appear, and the rest is up to you—unless it's a special situation."

The Head Instructor finished his instructions, and a holographic mirror appeared again, displaying the names. He then called out the first name to come forward: "Leon, step forward."

Everyone could see he was nervous by the way he fidgeted. As he approached the altar, he stared at his hand for a minute before cutting it and placing his blood on the crystal, which absorbed it as if it had never been there.

Suddenly, the gateway began to pulsate, and a black cat with white and red stripes emerged, its eyes closed. As it approached Leon, the cat revealed its eyes, which shimmered with three blue stars surrounded by a black aura. "You passed," it said and no one still knows the test he received from the cat,

before transforming into mist and marking itself on Leon's body.

Head Instructor Renfield walked up to Leon and placed a hand on the cat tattoo on his neck. "Okay, try to harness your energy, but this time do it differently; focus on the cat tattooed on your neck."

Leon followed the instruction precisely, and in the next moment, he sank into his own shadow and resurfaced behind Head Instructor Renfield. "It seems yours is one of the rare shadow abilities," the instructor informed him. Soon, others followed suit, and after four hours, only twelve students remained. Then suddenly, my name was called next.
