Chapter 34 - Start of War

For a long time, Aung and Min were under surveillance, Min was tortured, and Aung was threatened to be left to be torn apart by "hungry" men and starved. This awaits every opponent of the Anandaman cartel.

As soon as Shin arrived at one of the barracks, Shin and some of the guys dragged in several wounded workers who were beaten by the fighters for their bad temper and disobedience. Brothers Nai and Dinai were beaten and exhausted.

- Chain them to this pole - Shin said and ordered them to be chained to the pillory next to the barracks, leading the wounded behind him. Nobu watched as one of the wounded had his jaw shattered, apparently from a rifle butt.

- Thank you guys, you're free to go, be gentle next time - Shin led the fighters out and approached one of the chained men.

- This one is most likely not long for this world, no one will feed him from a spoon. - Shin pointed at him, glaring at Nobu who had arrived. - It's better to finish him off right away and put him out of his misery. - Nobu noticed Shin's pupils were darting around, he was sweating profusely.

-I-I can't. - He admitted, grabbing his gun from his holster with trembling hands and looking at the man with a drooping and crushed mouth. Nobu looked at him with understanding, but in his case he had to do everything himself, so why should he do it for someone else?

-I won't help you with this. - Nobu continued to watch intriguingly and wait until someone came up to Shin and made him shoot one of the wounded.

-Shhh What the hell... Phew. - Shin was shaking violently, and he could barely hold the gun in his hand. Nobu was familiar with this, but even he, a twelve-year-old boy, did not shake so much. "Why is he so worried about them?" Shin saw the blood and violence his colleagues inflicted on him every day, but he was afraid to hurt anyone. This surprised Nobu.

-Hmm, I'm disappointed. Maybe I should tell Bucephalus about this? - Hearing the name of the camp's leader, Shin became nervous and recklessly dropped the gun from his hand. Too close to the prisoner, he took the opportunity to grab the gun.

-Shut up... - he ordered Shin and Nobu. - Don't be afraid, Nai, we'll get out of the camp now, with the gun we have a chance. The guys from the Junta will heal you.

-Kh-gh... - the man with the ripped mouth made a sound. - Now release us, quickly! - He pointed the barrel at them. Nobu and Shin became nervous, but they knew that no one would be able to leave the camp. Carefully freeing the prisoners, he grabbed Shin, putting the gun to his temple. - Calm down, don't move.

-I haven't done anything bad to you, let me go!- Shin handed them the keys to the shackles.

-You're in cahoots with these bastards, you've prolonged our torment time and time again. Do you think you're innocent? No way! You're the cruelest person in the camp. Treating and shamelessly prolonging the suffering of many of my friends, some of whom are no longer alive. So shut the fuck up. - Shin didn't say anything else. Nobu had enhanced perception from the quirk he'd gotten from the tiger he'd killed, so he could sense far more detail than an ordinary person.

For example, hearing and seeing uneven breathing, an accelerated heartbeat, dilated pupils, and in general the smallest movements of a person reveal their general condition. Nobu gradually began to notice these signs from observations with enhanced perception, which became like family to him. Nobu noticed that the gun seemed to be uncocked, he had learned this during his machine gun training.

Nobu prepared to take the knife out of his pocket.

-...- Shin did not want to speak, he was depressed.

"Who knew that he was so spineless. In any case, the gun will not fire, then I can go up to him and disarm him, but... what's stopping me?" Nobu was afraid of the bullet, it seemed fatal and even the guarantees were not particularly encouraging. Nobu took a small knife out of his belt.

- Hey! What do you have there, don't move, or I'll shoot you.

The boy demonstrated the knife that he would need to stab the prisoner with. "The most important thing is not to show fear in front of him. I know that his gun will not fire in any case because the bolt was not cocked, the cartridge was not fed and it is essentially empty." He also thought "Maybe to hell with it? Just run away and call someone to solve this? I've been thinking about it for a long time."

Nai pulled the beaten prisoner by the leg and looked at him, then at the gun.

-Exactly! - he pulled the bolt and now the gun was loaded.

Nobu's eye twitched, at that moment he threw a knife at the prisoner holding Shin as a hostage and abruptly ran out of the tent. A shot rang out in his direction. The knife flew past Shin's head. Missed.

- What a clever bastard, let him bring others, I'll take more with me. Did you hear the medic? You won't survive anyway, bastard! - he whispered in his ear.

- Well, then kill me! I'm already fucking sick of putting up with this shit!

Nai and Dinai are brothers who came to this camp recently, they observed all the atrocities happening here, and experienced them first-hand. They have been working on this plan for quite some time with the support of the Junta to destroy the camp. The cartel will not leave them alive, even if they manage to get out of the camp, they will be searched for, even outside this camp the cartel is still influential.

They would have died anyway, and this way they could take more fighters with them thanks to their combined quirk of Twin Annihilation. They were sent here as suicide bombers. Before, they just wanted to escape, but they lost the will to live and wanted to take revenge on the entire cartel. A clever move by the junta command, throwing them into the epicenter of hard labor and reducing everything alive to ashes.

"Come on, come on, bastards!" - Nai and Dinai held hands. Nobu began to suspect them of unusual behavior, as more and more fighters arrived at the barracks, they aimed at the two men. Nobu continued to keep his distance and stood behind the fighters. Bucephalus arrived and observed the situation while Shin was held hostage.

-Something is wrong here." Nobu said to Bucephalus.

-Do you know why it got out of control?" Bucephalus also began to think about their unusual behavior.

- Shin couldn't shoot one.

- Got it. Shoot them. - he ordered the fighters.

- Shin is there...

- Shin has failed us. Let's find another medic. Fire!

Dozens of guns opened fire on the trio, turning them into a sieve in a split second. They fell and even hiding behind Shin, they were unable to escape. The fighters approached them a little, while Bucephalus and Nobu watched warily.

- Check their corpses! - a couple of fighters approached to check the executed ones. One of them heard...

- Come on, brother... - the brothers holding hands lit up with a glow, which reminded Nobu of the bad effects of the Ash and everything that glows. He began to back away, sticking to Bucephalus.

- Hey! There's still... - the fighter did not notice the glow. Nobu and Bucephalus had a few seconds to react to the powerful explosion that rang out over half the camp. Bucephalus did not have time to grab Nobu, who did not react right away. Despite the name of the Annihilation quirk, the effect was like a fiery explosion, and half the camp was blown apart by the shock and fire wave, incinerating the ground, tents and barracks with slaves. The first row of fighters was incinerated and their ashes scattered in the wind. Nobu burned his hands, trying to protect his eyes from the blinding explosion, Bucephalus covered him with his strong body, his back was covered in burns.

An alarm was raised on the surviving side of the camp, in parallel with the internal explosion, an authorized attack took place outside the camp on the checkpoint and several checkpoints.

- Attack of the Junta! - someone shouted as if the last death march had arrived.
