Both Damian and Slayer hurried out of the shop, exchanging quick glances as they activated their comms.
Slayer spoke first, "Chris, it was a bust. The old man wasn't who we were looking for, and while we found the sniper rifle, it's broken—couldn't have fired that shot."
Chris's voice came through the earpiece, calm but with a tone of urgency. "Roger that. We're about to make contact here. Head to the safehouse and wait for us to join—"
Suddenly, a gunshot cracked through the comms, making both Slayer and Damian jump.
"Hello? Captain?!" Slayer shouted, alarm in his voice. Damian quickly added, "Chris! Are you okay? What happened?!"
