Dimitri POV
Hard to believe the crystal and gold room around them was underneath the Catacombs of Paris. If the tourists only knew that two vampires sat in a royal parlor sharing a drink and political intrigue, their heads would explode.
Leaning back in a comfortable armchair with a glass of young Beaujolais, King Lothair regarded Dimitri seriously. "You're really willing to risk civil war over this human?"
Dimitri slowly sipped his wine. "I suppose this is the part where you question my sanity."
Although he seemed perplexed, Lothair's ageless skin didn't wrinkle, but his eyebrows arched. "Yes. You've always been a wild card, but this takes the proverbial cake, to mix metaphors. Going against your own family?"
"Do you really think it's worth it to continue to hold one human family hostage to some outdated agreement? The world has changed, Lothair."
