Ariana POV
Bones seemed to watch her progress as she walked through the Catacombs of Paris, into the area called the Ossuary. The smell of death and dirt and ancient history followed her.
With Father De Sang leading the way, Dimitri guided Ariana, holding her elbow. "Just a little bit farther."
Ariana gazed wide-eyed at the historic site of the dead. "They named parts of this creepy place the Lacrymatory Sarcophagus, the Samaritan Fountain or the Sepulchral Lamp. Very fanciful names. I read it on the official Web site."
Keeping an unbreakable hold on her elbow as if he had permanently attached his hand to it, Dimitri guided her toward a section of a cul-de-sac and put his hand on the bones.
Ariana looked around wildly at the posted warnings in French. "I'm pretty sure that these signs all say in French, 'Do Not Touch.'"
Dimitri replied dryly, "Duly noted. But you must understand that I watched these catacombs being constructed."
