Chapter 17 - Assessment

The class was specifically called Weapon Creation, and not Blacksmithing, since they did a lot more than just hammer metal.

The professor's way to show us the class was a practical demonstration of it, where she created a dagger from scrap iron and the fang of an Ice Wolf.

"Demons don't leave behind material when they die, you see, so we use Beasts."

She explained in a matter-of-fact tone.

"Those vermin ensure they do not benefit anything except themselves, even in death."

Alastor thought to himself,

'Ouch. Harsh but true.'

As the class continued, Alastor felt that it would fit with his plans quite well.

'I'll add Weapon Creation to the list.'

........................................

The other classes went as expected, only Weapon Creation having tempted him a bit.

Alchemy was something Alastor was not particularly interested in, especially since Runes existed.

Pure Mana Theory was also an unpopular class, since it was simply researching the nature of mana, and it's existence.

Weapons Mastery on the other hand, was a hit with most of the students.

It was also the only class that had more than 1 teacher.

The day ended uneventfully as they were given the evening off to train or explore the campus.

The first thing they found were sparring grounds, leading to A immediately challenging Alastor again.

Karna and Axel sparred as well, although it was mostly Karna teaching Axel.

Alastor and A faced off again, as A did not rush in like the last fight, opting to stay back and observe.

Alastor decided to try the same method as before, though he understood that it probably wouldn't work.

As expected, A had grown to the point where he could expel the foreign mana from within him the moment it entered his sytem.

Alastor also noticed that A wasn't attacking as much, just watching and counter attacking.

'I see. He has to know where the blow is coming from in order to counter it.'

'That's fine. I can try something as well.'

Alastor again threw his spear at A, who still didn't close the gap between them to attack Alastor.

Alastor approached him instead, hands raised as if to fight him hand to hand.

Again, instead of attacking, A jumped back.

Which proved to be a big mistake, as the now floating spear jabbed into his back and pushed Alastor's mana into him.

A was distracted by the pain in his back, and Alastor used that opportunity to attack him form the front.

The floating spear appeared at random, distracting A, until he finally managed to slap the spear out of the air.

Unfortunately, the spar was over by then.

Alastor frowned as he picked up his spear.

'The connection between the mana in the spear and me ended the moment it was moved from the path I wanted it to go in.'

'It's too unreliable for actual combat right now. I should research this more before applying it.'

........................................

As A and Alastor headed towards the section to get water, a female student was coming out of the section.

Her eyes narrowed as she saw the boisterous A, and made a rude comment as she walked past,

"Barbarians."

A turned and asked, "Ho? Who were you again?"

The redhead seemed to have some unresolved issue with A, as she turned angrily,

"I am Alicia Meltia Asher, daughter of the third Throne, Asher of the Grand Alliance!"

A simply cocked his head, "No idea."

She grit her teeth and turned away.

Alastor felt mana forming beneath his feet, and disrupted it, but A either didn't care, or didn't know how to.

Small and weak flames arose from the ground a bit further away from Alastor, due to his intereference, not even inconveniencing him before dissipating.

On the other hand, a pillar of flame arose from A's feet, engulfing him.

He waved his large hands, and the flame parted, showing him to be completely unharmed, with only his upper clothing burnt off.

Alicia, seeing how her attack didn't work on either of them, walked away as if she hadn't just tried to sneak attack them.

'Her ego is too much....Unless she's acting to test our abilities or something.'

'Probably the second one.'

"No wonder you're just Rank 3."

'When your acting is that horrible.'

Alastor said as they walked away as well.

She heard them, but did not deign to answer.

Alicia mentally noted, 'Rank 1 managed to sense and disrupt the spell beforehand. Check limit of sensory ability when possible. Immense control over mana. Spellcaster or Battle Aura user unknown, leaning to Battle Aura. Spear Mastery unknown, possible high Initiate to low Knight. Evaluation: Uncertain.'

'Rank 2 was durable enough to ignore the Tier 1 spell. Will test Tier 2 at later dates. Physical strength is on the level of infant beasts like Titans. Path of Battle Aura confirmed. Internal usage of mana and reinforcement at high level. Current evaluation: 85%. Possible Evaluation: 99%.'

'Now to test Rank 4.'

Of course, Alicia hadn't found trouble with them for a reason as foolish as arrogance.

She simply wished to know as much as she could about their capabilities, so she could come up with countermeasures, if they were allies or enemies.

Either way, knowing their skills would be beneficial.

The daughter of a Throne of the Grand Alliance could never make such a simple mistake as to get annoyed over just this.

Nobody in this Academy was a fool, after all.

.......................................

After Alastor entered his room again, he decided to train with the weights and the mana inhibitor for a while before he slept.

Unfortunately, he no longer felt the same enlightenment returning when he tried to crack the mana inhibitor.

'Nothing too important happened today. From tomorrow, the actual thing will begin, with the choice of Additional classes and Mandatory Classes.'

Alastor thought back to the talents he had seen today.

'Yes, I can see the vision forming.'

'But.....I should begin the preparations in case I am found out.'

'It will take quite a bit to set it up, but what I have in mind should be enough to fool even the Gods.'

Alastor ended the training after he was satisfied with it, and decided to test something.

'Demons can't use Runes at all.'

'But I'm not a demon at the moment.'

Unlike Professor Bones, Alastor couldn't draw in thin air with his mana, so he recreated the symbol he had made for his demonstration on a sheaf of paper that was provided to them.

'This is quite a major part of my plan, and I would have to change quite a lot if this doesn't work.'

As a light glow hit Alastor's face, it highlighted his demonic smile as he looked at the Rune.

'Perfect.'
