Chapter 2 - The Alpha's hunger

Third person's POV

"Well, I have a war to plan." Chloe said to herself, pushing away the nagging feeling that something was missing in her life of absolute power.

She turned away from the window and made her way back to her manor. Her steps were graceful and purposeful.

She entered her big, tastefully furnished sitting room and breathed in the fresh air. Everything in the room screamed luxury. Hearing her movements around the house, Thomas walked out of the kitchen to meet her. He was her personal cook and the head of all servants working in her manor.

"Welcome, Alpha. Food is ready. Should I set the table now?" Thomas inquired respectfully.

"No." That was Chloe's curt response and she turned to walk up the stairs. Her bedroom was upstairs. Thomas quickly stopped her by speaking up.

"I'm sorry Alpha, I do not mean to disturb you but I am worried about your health. I understand that you really don't eat much, but you barely ate yesterday, you only took an apple and water, and now it is way past noon, yet you said you don't want any food." Thomas pointed out with concern.

"I will eat when I am hungry, Thomas. I am not hungry yet." Chloe told him dismissively and walked away.

"She worries me with her eating habits. I hope she is fine." Thomas said to himself and heaved a heavy sigh before making his way back into the kitchen.

Meanwhile, Chloe walked upstairs and stepped into her lavish bedroom. It was just as tastefully furnished as the sitting room. It was obvious she was wealthy and lacked no luxury.

As she walked deeper into the room, her golden eyes fell upon the figure sprawled across the silk sheets of her huge bed.

"He is still in here...?" Chloe muttered to herself as she eyed the figure on the bed, a scowl making a way onto her face.

"Why are you still here?" She inquired not sparing the man a glance. She was at her drawer, checking for something she needed.

The man, Damien sat up on the bed, a lazy smile playing on his lips as he saw Chloe. His pale, chiseled chest and six packs were on full display.

"Mio amor..." Damien muttered. Chloe's face scrunched up in disgust at the endearment but she decided not to comment on it.

"You should leave now." Chloe stated instead.

"Yeah, I know. I know how it works between us." Damien said with a knowing look but he didn't look either satisfied or ready to leave. However, he stood up from the bed and walked up to her.

"Anyway, Can I hold you for some seconds? Last night was exquisite, I haven't gotten over the feeling. Can I perhaps have some more minutes with you?" He asked her and tried to hug her from behind, without her knowledge.

A big mistake on the part of Damien.

As someone whose guard was always up, Chloe's eyes flashed dangerously and without thinking, she elbowed him on the chest, pushing him roughly from her body.

If it were an ordinary human, such rough push would land him on the huge bed, injuring him but Damien quickly recovered from the sudden attack and landed on his feet instead. His fangs lengthened slightly, a reflex born of centuries of vampiric instinct.

"Easy there big vampire, put those away." Chloe said and rolled her eyes as she looked at him and saw his fangs.

"What was that for?" Damien gritted out, he was taken aback by the sudden attack.

"You shouldn't have tried that with me. You know I hate that." Chloe said firmly, she wasn't remorseful at all.

"All that lovey dovey stuff aren't for me. I am not a girly girl who would bask in your scent as you hold them in your muscular arms. So, get over it." She added and scoffed.

At her statement, Damien's countenance softened a bit and he put back his fangs.

"But you weren't all guarded up last night, were you?" He taunted her, narrowing his eyes on her.

"Don't get cheeky with me, Damien." She snapped at him but he smirked.

"Mio amor, I know you are fierce and ruthless which is why I love you so much, but you are still a girl. I can't ever forget your girly moans when you were on top of me last night." He said, reminding her with a smirk.

"As I have always told you, I don't need love, Damien. Now, don't push me. I am not in a good mood." Chloe warned him.

Damien heaved a sigh.

"But you were in a good mood, last night?" He asked her, a hint of hurt in his eyes.

"Yes, I was. And you should deem yourself lucky because that is why you were able to crawl your ass into my bed. But that was then. Not now." She maintained firmly and removed her jacket.

"Mio amor, why are you pushing me away? Why can't you just let me love you? Why are you not accepting my love for you?" He asked her as he had always asked her. The hurt in his eyes deepened mixed with a resignation that spoke of countless similar rejections.

Chloe shook her head, she was running out of patience.

"If you want me to call you again when I am in a good mood, you better take your leave now." She said, gritting her teeth.

Damien wanted to say more in persuasion but the cold fury in her eyes stopped him. He nodded and without another word, he picked up his discarded shirt and slipped out of the room.

"Love? That is for the weak and I am anything but weak." A choked laugh escaped Chloe's lips as she said to herself.

She fully knew the vampire who was as old as time itself, loved her and that was why she could get him in her bed anytime she wanted. Anytime she wanted to feel something else other than thinking about the next pack to conquer.

She shook her head and laughed dryly as she thought of how naive Damien was for thinking she would grow to love him just because she was using him to warm her cold bed and body.

"Too naive!" She scoffed. Then, a knock at the door interrupted her thoughts.

"Enter." She called out and sat on the edge of the bed.

Ethan, her head warrior, briskly stepped into the room. His eyes darted around, nostrils flaring slightly at the lingering scent of vampire, but he wisely chose not to comment.

"Alpha, I apologize for the interruption but there is an urgent matter that requires your attention." Ethan said, bowing his head respectfully.

Chloe raised an eyebrow, instantly alert.

"Speak." She instructed him.

"Our scouts have returned from the Shadowpaw territory. It seems there has been... a development." Ethan drew out.

"What kind of development?" Chloe demanded, her voice sharp. Ethan swallowed hard before continuing.

"It appears their Alpha has summoned the help of the rogues, in anticipation of our attack, Alpha. From what we've gathered, every corner of the pack is filled with rogues." He explained to her.

A slow, predatory smile spread across Chloe's face.

"Well, well, the old Alpha is definitely letting his fear for me show. How satisfying." She purred.

"Is this going to change our plan?" Ethan inquired unsurely.

"Not at all. It just means more slaves to capture for us. Gather the war council immediately. We strike at dawn." Chloe instructed the man.

"Understood, Alpha." Ethan replied and then hurried out to carry out her orders.

Chloe turned to look at the window, her golden eyes gleaming with anticipation.

The emptiness inside her receded, replaced by a familiar hunger for power.

"The Shadowpaw Pack thought they know fear? No, they are about to learn the true meaning of the word, as I would gladly teach them." She thought and a big smirk spread across her face.
