Chapter 12 - Chapter 12

CHAPTER 12

Mr Jose walked down the stairs, into the living room, his eyes fixated on his daughter whom he could tell wasn't in the best of moods. She looked like she was calculating or thinking something through rather. She didn't notice him come in and it was when he was close enough that she became aware of his presence. She turned to face him.

"Good morning dad" she greeted

"Morning my child" Mr Jose answered

"I told you to bring Perry to me the night before, but I didn't see him nor you" the man said and she shook her year with a sigh.

"Perry's gone dad. When you asked me to get him, I searched for him in the whole house but I couldn't find him. When I asked the maids, one of them said she saw him leave earlier with his bag. I went to our room and truly, his stuffs were not there" she explained to him.

He clenched his fists tight as he tried to contain his anger.

"I assigned people to look for him, but I haven't gotten any news of him yet" she added

"That son of a.." he stopped midway

"Well, that won't be an issue. He can run but he can't hide. He can run all his life, I'll still get my hands on him when the time is right. For now, you just have to focus on improving your relationship with Shawn. We need to get him on our side as soon as possible. It will be essential to have a tie with such an influential family" He told her and she nodded her head.

"I'll look for that ungrateful husband of yours and have him sign the divorce documents as soon as possible" He added and she nodded once again.

She wasn't letting an opportunity like that pass her by, not even Perry could stop her shine.

"The dining table has been set" A maid came in to announce and they didn't waste time to move to the dining room as Katherine couldn't wait to see Shawn, even though she had seen him just a few hours ago. While her dad, Mr Jose couldn't wait to go see Mr Jacob who had told him they had an important discussion. He helped it would be in his favor.

*************

Helen was a little bit worried, seeing as Perry had not called her. He had told her that he would be back this morning, but he was yet to return and it made her troubled in some way. He didn't sound scared or panicked when he called her the night before, so she waved the feeling off her mind. It seems she was just overreacting.

She didn't waste time taking her bath and she left for work, still worried but more composed. She couldn't be seen lagging at work due to personal reasons. Emotions were a good distraction and she couldn't let them weigh her down.

She boarded a taxi that took her straight to the office and when she came down from it, she took deep breaths before walking into the company building.

She noticed that the workers were more busy than usual and the workers were noisy, which was a rare occurrence. It seems she was missing something.

She walked to one of the workers, the one she was a little bit comfortable discussing with, as she had always been a non social bird, Perry being the only person she mostly spoke to.

"Hey Tony" she greeted as she waved at him and he left the set of workers he was talking to, to entertain her.

"Good morning" she greeted

"Morning angel" he answered. She just shook her head at his words. Tony was the company's social bird, and a full blown womanizer. He was loved by everybody as he was very friendly and had a welcoming personality. She had to say, Perry apart, he was the best person in the company.

"Uhmm, am I missing something here?" She asked. He looked at her skeptically since he couldn't understand what she was talking about.

"I mean, what's with the preparations?" Helen broke it down to him and that was when he understood her.

"Ooh, you didn't get the text?" He asked.

"What text?" She asked. She was getting more confused with every passing second.

"Ook, I'll take that as a no"

"The Owner of the company decided to drop by. We were asked to round up every pending work as there was every possibility that he might want to go through some documents of the company" He disclosed to her and she was a little bit surprised.

"I thought Shawn was the owner or his dad, something like that" She pointed out

"No, he's not. He's just the CEO and I heard that he was given the role as a settlement" Tony said, lowering his voice

"Settlement? How?" Helen asked.

"Oh little bird, you're such an adorable curious little bird" she said as he pinched her left cheek. He bet down so they were just a few inches apart from each other and he whispered into her ear.

"Ok, let me explain to you. Some rumors have been flying around since Shawn became the CEO of the company. They said his mother was a maid in the house of a billionaire, she had an affair with the billionaire and she gave birth to this little boy. The billionaire and his mother hid it from the billionaire's wife. They hid the boy until he was five, but the man's wife found out and she tried to kill him. In order to save his life, the man disowned the boy and gave him enough money to settle down. After a few years here and there, The boy left the country and he met a girl who changed his life for good. He is now influential and wealthy, and the billionaire and his wife are finding it hard to eat a three square meal. Perfect definition of 'the rejected stone has become the corner stone" Tony ended his story before giving her space.

Helen was tempted to laugh but she held herself back. She knew he wouldn't tell her any more stuff if she laughed at what he said, so she contained her laughter.

"So, Shawn's father is or was a billionaire?" She paused and Tony nodded his head

"And he downed his son?" She asked again and he nodded again.

"We both know that's not true Tony" she said with a stifled chuckle

"Yeah, I know. It's not the real story but we both know people like to assume and come up with things. So we just have to go with the flow" He said with a chuckle

"But whatever it is, it is none of our business. We just have to do as we are told. You need to clean up your office and round up your work too, right?"He asked but she shook her head.

"Mine is as good as new" she replied

"I take it that is why you didn't receive the SMS"

"I think so" she said with a small smile.

"Ok then, if you'll excuse me, offices need cleaning" He said before blowing her a kiss.

She chuckled as he left. 'humans and unnecessary rumors' she thought as she watched him leave.

Now she knew why they were busy and thankfully, she wasn't going to be joining them. Her hard work finally paid.

She was about to head to her office when she saw the way the females in front of her looked in her direction wide eyed. She couldn't understand what was happening, she came here everyday, meaning they saw her everyday so she couldn't fathom why they were behaving the way they were acting that way. She heard a few gasps coming from behind her and she turned instinctively.

Her jaw almost dropped to the ground.
