"I found something!" Zion screamed excitedly, running towards an old falled log near the lake.
"What is it?" Lyra asked, excitedly running over to see what it was. This was the first time she and Zion were allowed to hunt alone without their parents.
Zion was happily holding out a hand, pointing to a nest of rabbits buriend underneath the fallen tree, his brown tail wagging behind his grinning face.
"See? I told you I'd find one before you!" Zion said. He was already crouched low on the ground, stalking towards the nest of little rabbits.
"That's not fair! You had a 5 minute head start." Lyra said, crouching down next to him, her long red hair falling down her face. Her ears were pressed against her head, and her tail low on the ground. Her hands were twitching as she held her small silver dagger, determined to catch at least one of the four rabbits she could see from her spot on the ground next to Zion.
"Whatever you say, Lyra Ravenscroft," Zion said, crawling closer to the rabbits nest.
"Hey, that's not fair!" Lyra said. "Seriously though, who names a wolfman after a raven?" Zion teased her.
"Wolfwoman," she corrected, getting ready to pounce. They were close enough to see directly into their nest now. Zion pulled his dager out of its sheath, and Lyra wipped her hands on her green hunting shirt. The rabbits still didn't seem to notice them.
Zion looked over at her and nodded. They attacked simultaneously, being able to get one rabbit each as the others scurried off out of the nest towards the forest. Lyra quickly turned around and quickly caught a second rabbit, slicing its thought and killing it instantly. The remaining rabbit managed to slip past Zion and scurried into the forest, getting away without a scrach.
"Look who's so great now, huh?" Lyra teased, holding out two dead rabbits.
"Oh shut up, I almost had it," Zion said, picking up his one rabbit and going of towards the lake to wash the blood of his dagger.
"Keyword, ALMOST," Lyra said, joining him by the lake.
"Watever," he said, "by the way did you hear they found a human outside the forest? "
"What kind?" Lyra asked, "wolf, bird, deer, tige-"
"That's the thing, they say it was a pure blooded human," he said, looking at her expectantly.
"Pfft, and you expect me to belive that?" Lyra said amused at the thought. She washed her dagger in the lake, making sure to scrub all the dirt on it till it looked brand new. "Everyone knows there's none of those left. They all died during the great war between realms." She explained.
"No its true the village chief said he saw it himself,"Zion said flustered. Washing his rabbit in the river and carefully rapping it in cloth so he could put it in his hunting bag.
"Okay, but who's to say he's not lying the?" She said. Carefully putting her own two rabbits in her bag she got back up and starting towards the village.
"But why on earth would he lie?" Zion said, getting up and following her.
"I don't know why Zion, maybe it was to attract more visitors, but i do know this, there are no more pure blooded humans," Lyra said annoyed at his persistence.
"I know but, then how do you explain what chief Alaric saw?" Zion asked, he would never admit he was wrong and Lyra was right. Never.
"He probably just saw an Elf and thought it was a human, common mistake," Lyra said, pushing the branches out of her path as she stepped into the clearing her village was located. Home.
