The next morning, Alex and Sophia walked into the dining room for breakfast, the aroma of freshly brewed coffee and baked pastries filling the air. Vera, Alex's mother, had requested Sophia join them, and Alex was hesitant but didn't want to raise any suspicions.
"Good morning, everyone," Sophia said, smiling warmly.
"Good morning, Sophia," Vera replied, her voice warm and inviting.
Alex took his seat beside Sophia, trying to appear calm, but his mind was racing with thoughts of the unknown caller and the men following them.
Alex sighed within himself. "Mother would probably be planning something sinister. She always invited Sophia to breakfast or dinner whenever she wanted to make a mockery of her.
I hope things will be different today since she looks so friendly and happy. Besides, Sophia is also minding her business as always, so nothing would go wrong... Or should I say... Nothing should go wrong." Alex said to himself.
