Sophia raised an eyebrow. "What do you mean?" She asked, trying to cover up.
"Don't play dumb with me, I can tell something is bothering you." Alex said, his voice filled with concern. "What is it?"
Sophia said. "I guess it's futile hiding this from you since you'll find out eventually, one way or another."
Sophia picked up one of the torn pieces of the cheque which Vera had given to her, and gave it to Alex, he stared at the torn paper, puzzled as to why Sophia was giving it to him. After taking a quick glance at it, he realized it was a cheque with his mother's signature.
"Where did you get this?" Alex asked, curious etched in his voice.
"I...it was... Your mother... She tried to pay me off." Sophia stuttered.
Alex raised an eyebrow. "Are you serious? I mean, I know my mother could be annoying sometimes, but trying to pay you off is just unbelievable." He said.
