"He was brought in earlier by an unidentified man. Nothing serious, just a few scratches and unconsciousness. He's currently in the emergency department," the nurse explained with a kind voice.
Melissa's knees nearly buckled with relief, a sob catching in her throat. "Thank you," she managed to say, her voice trembling. "Please, take me to him."
The nurse nodded, standing from her chair. "Follow me, ma'am. I'll take you to your son."
As they navigated the labyrinthine corridors of the hospital, Melissa's mind raced with conflicting emotions. Relief that Scott was alive mingled with a torrent of unanswered questions.
An unknown man had brought Scott in. Who was he? Was it possible she had been wrong about Izcacus attacking her son? If it had been the mad vampire, Melissa knew Scott would not have survived. Izcacus wouldn't have stopped until Scott was drained dry.
