Chapter 20 - Chapter 20

As dawn broke over the kingdom, Isabella flung open her curtains, welcoming the soft glow of morning sunlight. Today was the day she had been waiting for; today she would breathe life into her vision for the upcoming carnival. Unlike her mother, whose enchanting winter wonderland parties had become a fixed star in the kingdom's holiday tradition, Isabella longed for something unique — a breathtaking carnival inspired by the ethereal beauty of the Northern Lights.

"Think of it, Torrance!" she exclaimed, her excitement spilling as she twisted a strand of her long hair around her finger. "A tapestry of vibrant colors dancing through the air, illuminating the night sky as a celebration of the new light in my life as queen!"

Torrance, her loyal friend and self-proclaimed shadow, chuckled from the other side of the phone. "Well, if anyone can pull it off, it's you. But you realize planning a carnival isn't just about colors, right?"

She waved her hands dismissively, "Of course! We'll have the colors of the auroras, flowing from green to pink, crimson to indigo! But think about the music, the food, the games! It all has to feel alive… just like the lights in the sky!"

The party decor planners jotted down her thoughts, barely able to keep up with her enthusiasm as their ideas swirled in the room. As the morning turned into afternoon, Isabella found herself wrapped up in a whirlwind of meetings, each one bursting with new visions, creative ideas, and ambitious plans. A tantalizing aroma wafted through the hall as the chef brought in samples for the carnival's menu. Her mind surged with inspiration, yet she felt the familiar weight of exhaustion nestled behind her eyes.

The festivities and the grand ball awaited her, just days apart. "New Year's Eve… it has to be spectacular," she murmured, mentally stacking her priorities like the layers of a beautiful cake.

Yet, as the day wore on and Isabella finished her last meeting, she felt drained. She absently picked up her phone, intending to toss it onto her bed, dismissing the messages from her friends Ginny, Harley, and Kristy. Her group chat had been buzzing all day, but her mind felt like a tangled web. She sighed heavily, the weight of her responsibilities tugging at her spirit.

Just as she was about to press her phone aside, the screen lit up with an incoming call from Torrance. She hesitated but then clicked to answer. "Hey, what now?" she replied, though the irritation in her voice melted when she saw his teasing grin through the screen.

"Ah, there's my queen, You look like you've just battled a frost giant." he laughed, lightening the mood instantly. "You can't keep frowning like that; it makes me worry the lights will extinguish before they even begin."

She rolled her eyes but couldn't help returning his smile. "I just have a lot on my plate, that's all. I didn't expect this to be so overwhelming, especially with two events so close together."

Torrance leaned back in his chair, his demeanor shifting to one of understanding. "You know, it's okay to feel overwhelmed. But remember, a good queen knows when to delegate. You don't have to carry all of this alone."

As they talked, Isabella felt her frustrations ebb away. Sharing the weight of her worries with Torrance made everything feel a little lighter, and she began to share more of her ideas, her hopes, and even her fears about living up to her mother's legacy.

"Do you think people will accept my idea? What if they prefer the winter wonderland?"

Torrance smiled knowingly. "You're not your mother, Isabella. You're your own queen. Trust in the beauty of your vision — the Northern Lights represent new beginnings, after all. Just as you've taken on this role, this carnival can be a reflection of your reign. Make it yours."

The conversation drifted easily, laughter bubbling between them, a dance of camaraderie that reminded Isabella that she didn't have to do this alone. By the time they hung up, the shadows of doubt had receded, replaced by ideas.

Isabella glanced out the window towards the horizon, where the first stars began to twinkle against the dusk. She smiled at the thought of a carnival alive with the shimmer of auroras, with every color, every laugh, intertwining to create a new, vibrant chapter for her kingdom. With a renewed sense of determination, she grabbed her phone and quickly sent a message to Ginny, Harley, and Kristy.

"Let's brainstorm ideas for the carnival! I need you all. Meet me at the palace tomorrow?"

Her heart raced with anticipation; she was ready to embrace this journey — her journey. As she settled into her bed that night, the stress of the day faded into dreams filled with swirling colors of her majestic carnival, ready to unveil the magic of the Northern Lights.
