Indra's mind began to quickly race once she grasped the depth of the situation she's in. She was being carried by a man of intimidating muscularity who she did not know. From the look of him he could crush her with minimal difficulty. Even if she made it off his back, the other man Vizo, with his superhuman speed, could catch her before she even got one-hundred feet away. Even the mysterious woman who was mostly unknown, her abilities could be even more frightening than the other two. This left Indra frightened, and her mind in peril.
Thinking to herself now, Indra despairs, what have I done to deserve a fate like this? If only I had the power to save myself. She slowly fills the air with self-pity, and self loathing.
Icago, now made aware of the movement on his back quickly takes her off, "Slaves like you don't deserve to be carried. Walk." he says, his voice filled with irritation. When he put her down he made notice of her beautiful black hair and grey eyes... when he looks into those insurmountable eyes he is filled with the sense of nostalgia. And a sense of disdain..
Hearing Icago's words Vizo quickly turns around to see Indra, the bruise on her forehead that he gave her with the hilt of his dagger still clearly evident. Taking a moment to take in the scenery behind him, nothing but desert dunes for miles and miles. The sky is starting to turn back to dusk, and the ghostly woman in front of him, Indra, is.. She is making a run for it??
Each one of her footsteps leave a mark on the sands, she has no way of escape even if she made it away from the criminals. The vicious monsters of the desert would kill her anyway. But she can't stop herself, she needs freedom, never again. She promised to herself, would she have her freedom taken away. "If I can't have this then I have nothing..." she whispered under her breath.
Taking advantage of the opening she created, Vizo darts at her, saying to the other two, "Allow me, I will bring her back." He then darts towards her. By using Zephyra to strengthen his legs, his speed is other-worldly. Quickly closing the gap between himself and Indra. In the time it takes her to run just five feet, he can cover fifty.
And just as he reaches her rather than grabbing her he does something unprecedented, "Sorry to make you do this again but climb on if you wanna get out of here." Vizo then lowers his back allowing Indra to climb on. Seeing no other options, she climbed onto the man. The weight of her slowing him down. Before he could run fifty feet, now in the same time he can only run forty. "Will this be enough?" he whispers to himself.
Vizo's speed is remarkable, even for a Zephyrist, his stride is graceful once again showing off the peculiar side of him, like royalty he continues going. As his foot steps in the sand, and he goes to take another step there is a loud bang. He is briefly lifted off the ground and dashes several feet, the sands where his feet were just a second ago are quickly scattered out.
Now several hundred feet away from the escapees' Zara says, "Just continue on Icago, we both know a brute like you could never catch him. Leave this to me, once I get him I'll tear him limb to limb for this treachery."
Zara's legs start to glow in the dusk light, and she sets off, also empowering her feet with Zephyra her legs. Just as it was with Vizo, every step she takes a loud, boom, follows and the sands scatter away.
Indra's mind began racing as the endless desert stretched out before her. The sun finally coming out and into the horizon. The twilight landscape felt surreal to her, it was unlike anything she had ever seen before. And as the grains of sand slipped through her fingers, it felt like her last remnants of freedom being taken from her. Vizo's unexpected offering of help had been a lifeline for her, but at the same time a complication to the situation at hand. Having no other choice she had to accept, her overwhelming fear creates a strange trust in him.
With every stride and step into the sand the sand underneath his feet seemed to vaporize from the sheer power of his steps. The rhythmic banging after every step seemed to add a percussion to this nightmare chase. Every step was calculated and precise, like an art form of speed and strength. With Indra now clinging to his back his speed was slightly impeded, but still he knew even Zara would not be able to match this speed in a marathon.
"Hold on tight." Vizo muttered, his voice seemed strained but calm and focused. Indra's grip on him tightened and her heart began to pound even faster when she turned around to look behind her. The figures of Icago and Zara had become small dots in the distance. Zara's legs began to glow lighting up the environment around her, her legs enveloped with the same technique that Vizo used just before.
Zara's approach creating a series of thunderous cracks and bursts, her Zephyra enhanced speed left behind a storm of shifting sands and powerful air currents behind her. She moved with a predatory aura, her eyes narrowed in on her retreating prey.
"You can't run forever." She shouted across the distance, as if sending a challenge to Vizo and Indra. Vizo however, didn't bite, his legs growing tired from covering such great distance but, in front of him was hope. The outline of several rock formations slowly became visible.
Knowing that if he could make it to these rocks he could cause a diversion in Zara's tracking and possibly cause them to escape safely. Depending on how it was used every rock formation could be an ally, or an enemy.
As they closed in Indra asked, "Where are we going to?" her voice trembling barely audible over the gusts of wind.
"To Safety" Vizo replied, his voice had a hint of uncertainty but it seemed as if he was trying to reassure Indra to calm her down. He had a plan but Zara's relentless pursuit was closing in and it seemed their safety remained on whether or not he could carry it out.
As minutes ticked by, the distance between the two fluctuated Zara would close in then Vizo would step up the pace pushing himself even harder. This pattern continued for several minutes before they reached the first rocky formation. The lead he had now could be made even longer if he played the cars right.
"This is where our chance is" Vizo told Indra as they passed by the first rock formation. Vizo started running in a diagonal line toward the next rock formation while attempting to hide his position from Zara.
"I don't see her anymore" replied Indra, after a few minutes of dashing from rock to rock while mustering up all the speed he could it appeared that Vizo had successfully used the natural camouflage to bring them cover. Whilst passing by a rock formation a sudden burst of light appeared just ahead.
"What is that?" Indra gasped, her eyes wide and focused as she searched for the source of the illumination.
"Zara, we need to move quickly." Vizo replied, trying not to scare Indra but he himself was unsure if he could escape this.
Seeing a rock formation resembling a valley Vizo mustered all of his remaining strength into his legs and bolted for them as fast as he could. His speed was astonishing, he was easily moving over a hundred feet every second, and the ground was quaking with his approach.
The rock formation seemed to create a maze, they began to realize as they approached it.
"Now a game of luck." Vizo spoke to Indra, he began to randomly take turns down the labyrinth of stone. This continued for a few minutes until he came to a sudden stop.
"Now get down, stay quiet, and hide. This could be our chance." Vizo commanded Indra, she adhered to the best of her abilities. Staying quiet as a cat chasing its prey.
For now their survival had depended on purely luck. Whether or not Zara could find her way through the maze and go down the same path they had. The odds were stacked in their favor, but this realm has already proved to be unlucky for Indra.
"AAHHHHHH!!" A sudden scream startled both Vizo and Indra, immediately they both knew whose voice it was emitting from. Just after the shout loud footsteps began to ring in both of their ears, however the sound was slowly heading away from them. It seemed Zara had given up on the chase and was returning back to Icago.
Both Indra and Vizo let out a great sigh of relief. "Let us stay here for the night, I have spent up nearly all of my energy getting us to here. If we were to encounter a desert wyrm or another monster I am afraid I would be all but useless" Vizo said to Indra, as the words came out he was almost gasping for breath to finish the sentence.
