Chapter 20 - 20. Discord

Eric's POV

After carefully reading the messages that flooded his system screen, Eric felt a sense of clarity about the constellations' intentions. None had bothered to introduce any terms regarding the contracts they were offering, a glaring oversight that didn't escape his notice.

Inwardly, he sneered at their obvious intent; it became abundantly clear to him that most constellations likely sought to establish master-servant contracts with their contractors.

This revelation only served to deepen his disdain for these cosmic entities.

With a resolute tone, Eric asked,

"What is the relationship between the contracts you provide? Is it an equal one or an unequal one?"

A moment of silence followed his question, the air thick with tension as the constellations processed the unexpected challenge from a mortal.

Their shock was palpable, and Eric could sense the shift in energy around him. Then, like an eruption, the system screen exploded with responses.

"*Starborn Titan* appreciates your guts to talk back against the constellations."

"*Moonlit Warden* is angered by your behavior and warns you to apologize or he will make you pay."

"*Eternal Guardian* is pleased with your intellect and offers you an explanation on different contracts…"

"*Astral Weaver* is willing to form an equal contract with you."

Eric's expression remained impassive despite the flurry of messages.

He had never intended to forge a contract with any of the constellations in the first place; his inquiry was a deliberate attempt to gauge their true nature and how they perceived the people of the Grand Magus World.

The conclusion he had reached was stark: to the vast majority of these constellations, this world was nothing more than a playground, and humanity was viewed as mere mortals, with the sole exception of the tier 12 high gods.

After a brief moment of contemplation, Eric decided it was wise to recalibrate his approach.

"Firstly, I would like to apologize for my previous offense in asking such a rude question," he began, injecting a note of humility into his tone. "This is just my guess; there may indeed be different types of contracts, and I simply spoke my mind."

He paused, allowing his words to sink in. "Lastly, I have not made up my mind on who to contract with, so I would like to take some time to consider."

Eric understood the importance of knowing when to lie low and when to assert himself. Having been a high-ranking member of the Truth Order for so long, he had navigated many political landscapes, and he knew how to manage delicate relationships.

The Prophet had imparted wisdom that had served him well, and he intended to apply that knowledge now.

Seeing his genuine apology, many of the constellations chose to forgive him; after all, remembering such trivialities was beneath their lofty status.

They understood that he was a demigod in his prime and could be of use to them in the future. With that, they decided to give him the time he requested to make a thoughtful decision.

As the constellations withdrew their gazes from Eric, shifting their attention to other potential candidates for contracts, he seized the opportunity to communicate with the members of the Truth Order.

He sent a message detailing which constellations he deemed worthy of forming a contract with, based on his understanding of their motives and behaviors.

His insights were invaluable. After this interaction, he had gained a deeper understanding of several constellations, which he shared with his fellow members. The advice from the grandmaster of the Truth Order provided much-needed reassurance to those in the group.

Many sighed in relief, realizing they were not strong enough to directly oppose the constellations at this stage.

Forming a contract—especially an equal one—would help them avoid standing out and potentially being eliminated first.

In the world of cosmic politics, blending in while retaining a degree of autonomy was essential for survival.

By forming equal contracts, they could ensure they were not left at the mercy of the constellations, a fate many feared.

As Eric monitored the chat, he felt a surge of purpose.

The Truth Order had the potential to empower its members, turning them into formidable forces capable of navigating the treacherous waters of cosmic contracts and celestial politics.

He knew that, together, they could build a foundation strong enough to withstand the whims of the constellations, paving the way for a brighter future.

The game was afoot, and Eric was determined to play it wisely.
