(Next Year)

It was a silent night. The sharp, echoing sound of a blade slicing through flesh shattered the stillness, but no one intervened. There was no one present—only a pair of blood-red eyes glowing in the darkness. They belonged to a lone figure who mercilessly cut down his kin. Watching from above was another shadowy silhouette, steps soundless, enveloped in the void of the night.

Naruto stood silently, observing Itachi as he carried out the massacre. No one could stop him—not the men, not the women, and certainly not the children, many of whom were no older than six.

Naruto's presence wasn't aimless; he was there for a singular purpose: to ensure that Itachi's blade would never come near Sasuke's neck. That was something he would guarantee, no matter the cost.

The air was thick with the nauseating stench of blood and dirt. One by one, the bodies fell, until only one house remained untouched.

The home of Itachi's parents.

Itachi entered, expecting to find his parents asleep, but they were awake, seated calmly on the floor in a traditional Japanese posture. The faint light illuminated their somber faces.

He approached silently, hoping to finish what needed to be done without further emotional turmoil. Yet, before he could act, his father spoke.

"Itachi... you've come home," Fugaku said, his voice devoid of anger or surprise, filled instead with a quiet acknowledgment. He didn't turn to face his son—he didn't need to. He already knew Itachi's decision.

Mikoto remained silent, though her anguish was evident. Her heart was breaking; the child she had loved and raised was now the one fated to end her life.

"Yes, Father," Itachi replied softly. His steps faltered as tears began to well in his eyes. He unsheathed his blade, the crimson glow of his Sharingan intensifying as he raised it.

"No matter what path you've chosen, I will always love you," Fugaku said, his tone calm yet heavy with sorrow. He understood the impossible burden his son carried—the choice to protect the village and his younger sister, Sasuke, at the expense of their family.

Itachi's hands trembled. "...Y-yes, Father," he whispered, his voice cracking under the weight of his emotions. With a swift motion, he struck.

SPLAT

Blood sprayed across the room as Fugaku collapsed, lifeless.

Mikoto's eyes remained fixed on her son, love and pain intermingling in her gaze, even as the blade swung again.

SPLAT

Her body fell beside her husband's, blood pooling beneath them. Their hearts, once filled with love for their son, were now silent.

Itachi stood amidst the carnage, his chest heaving as he sobbed silently. His blade dripped with blood. The weight of his actions bore down on him, threatening to crush his spirit.

Then, a soft, innocent voice broke the silence.

"Big brother?"

Itachi turned sharply, horrified to see Sasuke standing at the doorway. Her wide eyes darted between him, his blood-stained blade, and their parents' lifeless forms. Her mind struggled to comprehend the scene before her.

"AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!"

Her scream of anguish pierced the night, filled with grief, loss, and horror. She clutched her head, as if trying to shield herself from the reality unfolding before her.

Outside, Naruto felt the despair radiating from the Uchiha compound. Sasuke's scream reached him, sharp and anguished, even from a distance.

As the wail faded, a figure emerged from the house. Itachi's face was pale, his Sharingan spinning wildly. Grief was etched deeply into his features, but before he could run, Sasuke intercepted him.

With shaking hands, she threw a kunai directly at him. It struck his forehead protector, knocking it to the ground with a metallic clang.

"WHY? WHY DID YOU KILL MOTHER AND FATHER?!" Sasuke screamed, her voice trembling yet loud. Tears streaked her face as she stared at her brother in disbelief.

Itachi's tears fell silently. He bent down, picked up his headband, and tied it back on. Each word she spoke felt like a dagger to his chest.

Her eyes, once innocent and full of admiration, began to shift. The Sharingan awakened, a single tomoe spinning in each eye.

Itachi's expression hardened, his face becoming a stoic mask. "You don't hate me enough, Sasuke. Hate me. Despise me," he said coldly. Activating his Mangekyō Sharingan, he cast a genjutsu upon her, forcing her to relive the horrors of the massacre over and over again.

To the outside world, only a moment passed, but for Sasuke, it felt like an eternity.

She collapsed, unconscious, her small body crumpled on the floor.

Itachi knelt beside her, his hand trembling as he brushed a strand of hair from her face. "I love you, Sasuke. Please don't hate me. Grow strong. Surpass me... Goodbye."

With that, he turned and vanished into the night, leaving the village—and his broken family—behind.

Later, Itachi reported to Danzo Shimura and the Konoha elders, bowing before them.

"The task is complete, as you requested," Itachi said, his voice devoid of emotion.

Danzo smirked faintly. "Well done, Itachi. So, what now? What will you do after this... sacrifice?"

Suppressing the overwhelming urge to cry, Itachi replied, "I will leave the village and join the Akatsuki. From there, I will monitor and neutralize any external threats to Konoha."

The elders nodded, pleased with his resolve. Without further comment, they dismissed him.

Itachi walked away from the meeting, his heart heavy with guilt and sorrow. Though the massacre was over, its weight would remain with him forever.
