Chapter 13 - On the Eve of Battle

The night still lingered, the cold wind biting against the skin, making Su Jin's cloak billow behind her. The soldiers moved quietly, preparing their armor and weapons with deliberate care. Each movement was filled with tension, the weight of the coming battle pressing heavily upon them. They knew this would be no ordinary fight—it was a battle for their lives, for the future of their kingdom.

From her vantage point on the platform outside the command tent, Su Jin watched over her army, her expression calm and resolute. But inside, her heart was anything but steady. This battle could lead them to victory and dismantle the old regime forever, or it could bring about their total annihilation. The stakes were higher than ever.

"Your Highness," General Gu Tingfeng's voice interrupted her thoughts as he approached her. His armor glistened with dew from the early morning air, and his face bore the weariness of a man who had already inspected every corner of the camp. "The troops are ready. They await your command."

Su Jin didn't answer right away. Instead, she studied Gu Tingfeng carefully. He was her most trusted commander, the man who had stood by her through every challenge. But even now, she could see the doubt flickering in his eyes, the hesitation he tried so hard to hide. She tilted her head slightly, gazing out at the sky. The last traces of night still clung to the horizon, as if reflecting the uncertainty of their future.

"General," Su Jin finally spoke, her voice calm but filled with a sense of finality, "there is no turning back. We must win this battle, no matter the cost."

Gu Tingfeng met her gaze, his eyes filled with a mixture of loyalty and concern. He wanted to protest, to speak words of caution, but he knew better than to argue with her. After all, Su Jin's mind was made up.

"Your Highness, leading the charge yourself is too dangerous. Your safety is vital to the morale of the army. If anything were to happen to you—"

"No," Su Jin cut him off, her gaze sharp and unyielding. "I must lead them myself. Not just for victory, but to show them that none of us can escape this fight. No matter the danger, I will stand at the front."

Gu Tingfeng sighed deeply, knowing there was no changing her mind. "Then allow me and my personal guard to protect you, Your Highness. Your safety affects us all."

Su Jin nodded slightly, her voice softer but still firm. "You may. But I do not need many. The soldiers must trust in me, not rely on me."

With that, Su Jin stepped to the edge of the platform, her gaze sweeping over the rows of soldiers assembled below. Each face, though hardened by battle, reflected an unshakable trust in her leadership. It was a trust she knew she could not afford to betray.

Taking a deep breath, Su Jin's voice rang out with strength and purpose, "Soldiers, today's battle will decide the fate of our kingdom. The old regime has gathered their forces, determined to destroy us. But I tell you this: we will not fall. We cannot fall! Because we do not fight for ourselves alone, but for every person who has suffered under their tyranny, for every life lost to their cruelty."

Her words burned like fire, lighting a flame in the hearts of the soldiers. The ranks straightened, a fierce determination igniting in their eyes.

"Your Highness, we follow you to the death!" one soldier shouted, his voice carried on the wind. The call was quickly echoed by others, until the entire army roared, "We follow you to the death!"

Su Jin felt a surge of pride and responsibility swell within her chest. She raised her hand, signaling for silence once more, and continued, "Today, I will stand with you on the battlefield. We will fight side by side. This war is not just for victory—it is for our freedom, for our future!"

Her words cut through the cold morning air, sinking deep into the hearts of the soldiers. She saw their fists clench around their weapons, their eyes filled with a burning desire to fight, to win.

"Now," Su Jin raised her arm high, her voice strong, "let us march together and claim our victory!"
