Chapter 22 - Chapter 22 Zero Dollar Purchase

Ji Wanwan, having recovered, stood straight and turned her head towards Xu Siming with a slight smile, "It's a small issue, don't worry."

Because the electrical system hadn't collapsed yet, the supermarket was brightly lit, and she took a moment to survey the environment.

There were signs of people having rummaged through the place, but overall it still retained the cleanliness and orderliness from before the apocalypse, with the vast majority of goods left as they were, untouched or undamaged. This realization reinvigorated Ji Wanwan's spirits.

But Ji Wanwan still felt uneasy.

This unease stemmed from instinct, or perhaps it was the sixth sense that arises in the face of danger.

Ever since she had entered Wanjiale, she had had this feeling.

The zombies here were too few, so few that it was unbelievable.

The zombie encountered earlier in the small shop further affirmed her unease; there had to be something beyond her understanding in this Wanjiale!

After three years into the apocalypse, Ji Wanwan had developed the habit of extreme caution.

She reached for her ring and took out two sets of Bullet-Proof Armor, two pairs of iron boots, and two pairs of Combat Gloves from the System Space, "There's something odd here, put on the Bullet-Proof Armor. Although I'm not sure if it'll be useful, it's better than nothing."

Xu Siming didn't question her and immediately put on the armor, boots, and gloves.

"Let's go, start shopping!"

All geared up, Ji Wanwan raised her fair little hand and made a departing gesture towards the vast supermarket in front of her.

"Go!"

Xu Siming tightened his grip on the Military Shovel.

The area they were in was the toy section, and Ji Wanwan quickly scanned it, having little interest in the items there.

She casually collected several Lego sets into her Space System and started heading towards the next section.

Suddenly, her eyes lit up and she made her way towards a large water gun on the shelf.

The water gun was half the height of a person and carrying that thing would make someone the most dazzling player in a water park, but in the apocalypse...

Xu Siming really couldn't figure out what use it could have.

Ji Wanwan, however, scooped up all the water guns and stashed them into the System Space.

Xu Siming: "..."

Forget it, junior sister must have her reasons for doing so.

Having taken the water guns, the two moved on to the next section.

This was the home appliances area.

Upon entering, Ji Wanwan felt as if she had arrived in heaven.

Refrigerators, air conditioners, washing machines, water heaters, microwaves, rice cookers, dishwashers, humidifiers, electric ovens...

As far as the eye could see, any expensive household appliance, Ji Wanwan took them all.

She even had already figured out where to place each of these items in her room.

Watching the items disappear one by one, Xu Siming cracked a smile.

He could feel her excitement from her silhouette alone.

Right, zero-cost shopping was indeed something to be happy about!

He glanced at the shelves, chose the latest model of an electric shaver, and grabbed the newest body-sensing game console for Ji Wanwan to put into the Space System for him.

Since he was already here, he might as well "reluctantly" take a few things.

Taking the electric shaver, Ji Wanwan couldn't help but think of her father, brother, and Qi Hao's bearded faces.

Ah, she had only been laying flat every day and forgot to distribute the goods she took last time to them.

She went to the shelves and cleared out all the electric shavers.

It was never bad to have too many things, to enrich her private stock, and to sell them for more money to get points!

Having nearly cleaned out the home appliances, Ji Wanwan and company moved on to the next section.

The next area was the daily necessities section.

Ji Wanwan didn't even look, she just swept all the items from the shelves into her possession!

Sanitary pads, sleep pants, shampoo, body wash, laundry detergent, laundry powder, toothpaste, toothbrushes, facial cleanser...

She wanted everything, absolutely everything!

Not only that, but Ji Wanwan also found two full walls of skincare products, including many high-end brands she had hesitated to buy before the apocalypse.

Take them! Take them all!

"After I bring them back, I'll share some with Ah Li and Mom, and sell the rest!"

"Whatever can't be sold, I'll use them for foot soaks!"

"Don't ask—it's just lavish! Capricious!"

Having thoroughly scavenged the daily necessities area, the two moved on to the next sector—the clothing area.

It was the transitional period between spring and summer.

The clothing area was primarily filled with summer attire, with a small section still hanging on to spring clothes.

Ji Wanwan walked up, took a few dresses off the shelf, and held them up in front of herself to compare.

Feeling satisfied, she turned to look at Xu Siming, "Senior Brother Xu, do these dresses look nice?"

Xu Siming's mind unavoidably drifted back to the day they first arrived at the refuge.

Ji Wanwan was wearing a long white dress with her curly hair cascading over her shoulders, her fair neck curving elegantly...

He swallowed hard, feeling his cheeks grow warm, "You wear it, it's beautiful."

With those words, Ji Wanwan happily stored the dresses into the System Space.

As they walked and browsed, Ji Wanwan took whatever clothing she liked—ignoring the gender, ignoring the size. As long as it was attractive or expensive, she looted everything!

Before the apocalypse, Xu Siming had never gone shopping with a woman other than his mother.

It had been many years since his mother passed away, and he never expected the second woman he would accompany to be Ji Wanwan.

Xu Siming quietly moved towards the shoe rack, planning to pick up a few pairs to take back.

He glanced over and spotted a pair of high-top hiking boots.

In the apocalypse, these boots could effectively protect one's ankles. He decided to take them.

As soon as he reached out and touched the shoe, something the size of a small arm crawled out from its shadowy side and bit Xu Siming's finger before quickly vanishing...

"Ah..."

Xu Siming gave a soft cry, panicked and staggered two steps backwards, bumping into a row of clothes behind him.

"sizzle——"

The grating noise made Ji Wanwan pause for a moment.

She stowed the clothes in her hands into the space and quickly came to Xu Siming's side, "What happened?"

Xu Siming stared at his finger, his face turning pale, "Something suddenly ran out and bit me then ran away, I didn't see what it was."

Hearing that Xu Siming was bitten, Ji Wanwan's heart skipped a beat.

"Where did it bite you, let me see."

Xu Siming lifted his bitten hand.

The leather combat gloves were tough and not easily damaged, but even so, the gloves on Xu Siming's hand were punctured with a hole.

Please, let it not be—not be, not be—

Ji Wanwan's throat tightened as she hastily undid the glove.

Seeing that Xu Siming's fingertip had a bite mark but the skin wasn't broken, she breathed a huge sigh of relief.

"Thank goodness, the skin didn't break…"

Better safe than sorry.

If Xu Siming had been bitten by something infected with the zombie virus and it penetrated the skin, the virus would enter his bloodstream and she wouldn't be able to save him.

The girl in front of him looked tenser than he was, causing Xu Siming to smile involuntarily, "This place is indeed strange, let's be careful."

Ji Wanwan replaced Xu Siming's gloves, "Right, then let's make it quick and head back soon!"

And her definition of 'making it quick' was—

Grab whatever you see!

Xu Siming, following behind, was unable to decide whether to laugh or cry.

After browsing through the clothing area, the two proceeded to the next sector.

This was the snack area.

Once they arrived here, the goods on the shelves were noticeably more disorganized, showing evidence that they had already been scavenged by more than one party.

However, unfortunately for anyone coming after Ji Wanwan's departure today, they would find nothing but empty shelves.
